He's one of the Phillies' most promising pitching prospects. Mid-90s fastball, and a slider that could really develop into a plus pitch. If the Astros decide Oswalt is staying put, the Phillies might be willing to settle for a #4 guy like Maholm. Perhaps add some bullpen help to the deal, like Carasco (who has been very good this year), and a lower-level high-ceiling guy (perhaps in low-A or so) from the Phillies, and the deal would be pretty fair, and the Pirates would have the most promising pitching prospect in their system.

The thing I'd like about this deal is that it would mean Wilson, Owens, Morris, and Ramirez would all come up around the same time, which would be great for the Pirates.

i thought you meant jc romero. i really doubt the phillies do much of anything except maybe a minor move. i doubt they will get a number 4 starter though. maybe a bullpen guy. i think werth might be gone. brown is tearing it up.

Gas-can? I don't think Meek or Hanrahan are going anywhere. I think Hanrahan's a better pitcher than Meek, and will likely be our closer by as early as next year, but unless the Pirates get blown away with a deal, Meek's sticking around, too.

Obviously, we're holding onto McCutchen, Tabata, Alvarez and Walker for a little while, too. I think Jones has become very trade-able, though, but I wouldn't do it just yet.

I hope they can't deal Werth, because I want him to hit free agency so the Pirates can make a play on him. He's on the top of my position players wish list.
