A useful idiot.
The sad part about the Terps move is that it was 100% a quick money grab. The move makes absolutely no sense for them. None at all. As an ACC fan (for the future) I'm hoping the ACC looks into getting Louisville. I know everyone is saying grab UConn, but Louisville is a great brand on both major sports. The move is also hurting their other sports. Lacrosse is one I've seen mentioned. That's a big sport in the ACC/East Coast, but not so much in the Big Ten. I dunno, I think the ACC is a stronger conference right now. They have some football teams on down years, yes, but for both the major sports it's the better option. Just seems like they sold out.
Yep, that's exactly what they did. Big Ten makes more money on college sports, mostly b/c football is the biggest revenue generator and the ACC is more of a basketball conference. But I liked that and that's what I care about.
Andy Katz is on ESPN talking about how the move had to do with "feeling like a stepchild behind Duke and UNC in the ACC." Grow up, fuckhead. This is about money, it has nothing to do with feelings. We've long been the 3rd best basketball school in the ACC, and that's just fine. We won a title, had tournament success, and being 3rd best in the best basketball conference in the country is just fine. Do you think Georgia hates playing SEC football? No, like Maryland, they are part of something big and an important part of that conference being the best at what it does well.
This also sucks for the lacrosse and soccer programs - the ACC is also arguably the best at these sports as well, so it's another small reason it stings. Only plus I can think of is better hockey.
