Like all rumors I'm skeptical, but word is the Mets could be in on Kendrys Morales from Seattle? He'd cost a decent amount but a 3,4,5 of Wright, Granderson, Morales sounds very tempting.

What a whacky Friday the 13th. Local college had to be evacuated because of a bomb threat.

Maybe they'll move Davis for less in that case.

I hear they aren't really asking for much, though. Middle relief was the last rumor I heard. We'll give you Morris and Hughes for him. :D

I'm pretty peeved as a Pirates fan today. They've hamstrung themselves pretty badly. The FA market is completely 100% dried up, and there's limited trade options. Moreland (no...), Davis (*sigh* not really), Smoak (maybe), and Lind (yes). The price on all those guys just went up.

Not really. And Davis is probably the best and most proven of all of those guys, to be honest. And he's also the cheapest, as it turns out.

There aren't enough teams in the market for first basemen. Honestly, it's now just down to us and the Brewers really actively seeking 1B help in the venues we're pursuing. So if the Brewers land one of those guys, the market for the rest of them is us, and we have the leverage. :plotting:

If I can sell Davis a bit, he's a season removed from 32 home runs, that can't be discounted. He'll be 27 at the start of the season, he almost matched his walks from 2012 in 50 less games and his obp improved. If he can escape the NY media and get out of his own head he could wind up being a very good player. I think last year, coming off a big year expectations were high, he was slow out of the gate, fans and media buried him and it got to him.

Sure, but none of those teams are really hurting to move their respective guys...and even though NH seems to be fine with Sanchez being "the guy" this year, I'd think "desperate" may be a good phrase for our situation. Also the Astros are in the market as well.

Well, fine. I'll take him...haha. Like I said, DESPERATE. But what exactly is the Mets expectation in return? I'm just frazzled today. Options continue to disappear, and the prime trading time of the year just passed. Sure stuff can and probably will get done, I'm just frustrated.

Some not-so-impressive middle reliever is the Brewers' current offer. And if the Mets sign Morales, they'll just want to be rid of Davis, so they likely won't hold out for a whole lot. I'm sure there are other players in the Brewers' offer, too.

We can best the middle reliever they're offering (Mike Fiers, I believe) by a very large margin and add in a little more without giving up much from our own system. Like I said, if this is actually the market for Davis, it should only take Morris and Hughes or something along those lines to land him.

Smoak will take more. He's the type of hitter their GM really seems to like.

Congrats Joey!

The honour is presented annually to the Canadian player judged to have excelled in individual achievement and team contribution while adhering to baseball's highest ideals.

"Joey Votto is not only a superstar on the field, but he's also an inspiration and a difference-maker away from the ballpark," said Scott Crawford, the Hall's director of operations. "There was a very strong field of candidates this year, but Joey deserves this honour for his tremendous contributions both on and off the field."

Votto wins Canadian Baseball HOF's Tip O'Neill Award

So I'm walking into the subway station this morning. Four guys in suits standing around and one says the following...

"It's like that saying 'you got no one to hold 'em, and no one to fold 'em.' I can't remember who said that."

:L

I really wanted to stop and say "Obviously, you are not a golfer." ;)

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts signs with New York Yankees - baltimoresun.com

Well, he'll probably be labeled the biggest Judas since Stover signed with the Colts, but I wish the man well. He stayed for a long time on a team that didn't deserve him, and as much as I hate the Yankees, to see him finish his career with a shot at the Series...

I will cheer him. Thanks for the years and the memories, B Rob.

I wish him well. Flip side is I dont blame the Orioles for not signing him again. Better for both parties involved I think.
