Decided that I'm going to watch the CFL this year for the first time ever. Helps that the games are on ESPN+ so I need to find out the rules and how it differs from college football and the NFL.
Our balls are bigger.

and you're going to LOVE it when the Rouge is in play!

I hope they play this season 'cause if they don't they might as well fold the league.

/I think they will play, the Argos are spending like drunken sailors to field a team that will be seen by friends and family :D

is Montreal any good? Saw they made the semis last year, but their are only 8 or so teams so I'm not sure how good that is.

The Alouettes should be in the mix, but I wonder if there are going to be two divisions this season or just one (it will likely depend on how many games they play this season). The league usually starts in June, but I wouldn't be surprised if they hold off until Labor Day and only play a 9 game regular season (usually it's 18).

basics:
only three downs
field wider and shorter
goal post is at the goal line, so occasionally comes into play
end zone really deep
unlimited motion in the backfield (i said, pardon?)
rough riders vs roughriders
the rouge is fucking awesome.

if you boot it through the endzone, or the reciever takes a knee, that's a single point.
leads to shit like this:

110 yards from goal line to goal line (and 25 yard deep endzones)

thanks. brain fart.

bigger field in all directions
12 men on the field, except Saskatchewan sometime has 13.
play clock 20 seconds instead of 40
no fair catch! you are supposed to be 5 yards away when the received first touches the ball instead.
- it's a 5 yard penalty if you are within 5 yards, or 15 yards if you kill the guy. (i think that might be 5 yards if the ball bounces before the catch, 15 yards if it is caught in the air)

Oh geez. I thought there would be a just a few chances, not a whole new book.

What is the shit with the kicking and 5 yards..? Does this come into play often?

I'm going to have from Allouettes games from last year and see if I can pick up on the rules

Now I’m even more confused.
Yards? Don’t you guys use meters?

Field goals are tougher in the CFL as well as teams can invoke an invisible force field...

no yards rule...

on a kick, if its a dribbler, you have a whole circle of guys standing 5 yards away waiting to tackle you when you touch the ball.
cat and mouse game ensues as the returner tries to coax someone a step closer to gain the penalty. that part is kind of stupid.
time to hover is limited, as a kicker can recover the ball himself if he gets the chance.

however, if it's caught on the fly and the defender times it right, they are coming full steam at some poor sap who has his eye on the ball.
kapow..... yard sale.
