I still remember being pissed when the Raptors traded Bonner for fucking Nestea. Guy genuinely liked being here at a time when it seemed like no NBA'er wanted to be here. He even got Canadian citizenship 3 years after leaving the Raps. Was glad to see him get two rings on the Spurs. Just an all around good dude.

All retirement videos will look up to this Matt Bonner retirement video as an example of what they could have been.

Dear MLSE, please please please change the basketball team's name to Huskies and I will wear this jersey every second day.

Feeling pretty good for a Monday morning. Fun weekend of sports, weather is mild, everything is just...

Just like the Jays to let the better, younger player go and sign the older player whose skills (both in the field and at the plate) have greatly diminished.

I honestly had no issue with letting Edwin walk and signing Kendrys because I don't have high expectations for this team - I expect them to be dealing guys at the deadline because I don't see a way in which they're competitive in either the East or the WC without Edwin and extensive bullpen additions, neither of which came this offseason. The extra first rounder will help the farm.

This deal just goes against all of that, though. They're rumouring $17-20 mil a year for two years. Why the hell would he get higher than the QO he turned down that nobody else was willing to beat? What happens if the Jays suck and want to start a re-build by trading for assets? They would have to hope that JB is good enough to warrant a team trading pieces for him for an extra year at big money and then to boot they have to deal with the fact him staying on the team means his 10/5 rights are still active. All talk this winter has been about how Shatkins are risk-adverse; this is one risky-ass deal.

The only thing that I think fans really ask from Shatkins is an idea even of where they're actually taking this team because nothing they've done points in any particular direction.

Anyways, I feel the need to vent about Jay Bruce. The whole situation bugged me from the start and it's even worse now in hindsight.

Positionally the move made zero sense, the argument being it was a backup plan in case Cespedes left. I think that's terrible planning. Cespedes passed up a huge offer to remain with the team last year, he wants to be here, you give him a reasonable contract and he's all set. The thought of him leaving should never have crossed their minds.

So instead we give up a young 2nd baseman in Dilson Herrera. Since we no longer have him we bring back Neil Walker (I do like Walker) for $17 million.

We could have slotted Dilson Herrera in at 2nd this year and still had 4 quality outfielders. Instead we have a combined $30 million on the books for 2 guys.

$30 million dollars solves any problem we have, frees us up for any trades, allows us to sign relievers, we are flat out, significantly better off in this 100% plausible scenario.

Don't worry, there will still be Jay Bruce to the Jays rumours in the future.

So this could wind up being Edwin's contract for an older, worse, more annoying player.

Those ALCS runs were fun, I guess. See ya in 20 years, sensible Blue Jays.

Quick prediction: Michael Saunders, who signed for half of what JB signed for with Philly, will have a better season than Circumstances McPunchedintheface.

Geez, one vowel can certainly make all the difference:

Norm King: Tim Raines should be indicted into the Hall of Fame
