Wizards were down by 3 and hit the game tying 3....but the ball was still in the shooter's hands 1/10th of a second after the buzzer... Series over. Wiz lose. DC sports.

The Indy crashes the past week have been crazy

this one was almost deadly ... just horrible

Indycar Racing News | Racer.com - Indy 500: Quick safety team response key in critical Hinchcliffe crash

In the impact, which flattened the right side of the chassis, one of the suspension wishbones penetrated the Dallara safety cell, and subsequently caused the majority of the physical damage Hinchcliffe received. RACER has confirmed through multiple sources that Hinchcliffe had the steel wishbone enter and exit his right leg, then enter his upper left thigh, and continue into his pelvic region before it came to a stop.

The suspension component pinned the 28-year-old in the car, leading the safety team to cut the wishbone from the chassis to allow Hinchcliffe's extraction

That...should not be happening. Christ that sounds painful.

I wish Hinch the best. He's gonna have a LOOONG road to recovery.

When I first saw the crash, I thought the outer barrier did well and absorbed a lot of energy. Then I saw the in car replay. The entire suspension just collapsed.

I went from "thank God" to "OH MY GOD" in a second and a half. No excuse for any external component to be able to pierce the survival cell of the car. Some major changes are gonna come out of this.

Given the lack of interest in Indy nowadays and the subsequent loss of revenue as a result of that, I get the feeling Indycar safety is lagging somewhat drastically behind the F1.

A million miles behind F1. Pretty much any series actually. I am really curious how seriously they are going to investigate. If the team cut a corner to save weight... I'd like to see something be done.

The suspension folded in the corner. It was broken before he hit the wall.

It's been that way for a while. Kenny Brack took a wild ride years ago and it cost him his career. Dario's wreck was brutal too. They need to figure it out. But all they seem to want to do is increase speeds.

This year was the fastest qualifying lap in 20 years. In cars that seem prone to parts falling off. Not good. I'm almost afraid to watch the race. Especially with the usual cast of drivers who should not be there in the field. It's always dodge 'em as the leaders start lapping people.

Too bad that toddler wasn't at Wrigley Field in 2003, I bet Moises Alou makes that catch and the Cubbies go on to play in the World Series.

would have been even better if Bartman was holding a baby when the ball came to him in foul territory ... dropped the baby ... and then made the catch

By the way, if you haven't seen the ESPN 30 for 30 'Catching Hell' which goes into very good detail about Steve Bartman as well as Bill Buckner and the Mookie Wilson dribbler between his legs in '86, it's excellent and I recommend it.

yep ... it was good ... brings up the question of why we as sports fans pick and choose our targets for infamy ... the dweeb fan in the glasses gets eternally remembered as at fault for the loss when cubs ss Alex Gonzalez boots an easy dp ball that would have ended the inning (after the Bartman catch) but you dont hear boo about that
