The two Minnesota state constitution amendments are too close to call at this point. Defining marriage as heterosexual only is 49-49 with 2% blank (blank is considered a no vote) and voter photo id requirements are 51 no 48 yes with 2-3% blank, but that's with only about 50% counted, so we'll see.

I don't want to start a SportsHoopla firestorm so I'll refrain from discussing my opinions on the amendments, although I will say I find it odd that the second is an amendment versus a proposal or referendum or any other way to say something which is voted on but doesn't affect the constitution.

Obama just finished. Decent speech. Definitely knows how to work a crowd, but I guess it's easy on a winning night.

Republican friends on this board shouldn't be too down. There's a solution to the economic problem, and if Obama, senate democrats and house republicans want to find it, they will. Hopefully, with this election done, they can all work towards finding a real solution instead of posturing for the next voting session.

Looks like it ended up not being close. 51-48 against (against in this case means same sex marriage is not outlawed).

I love the wasted time for the Alabama, Montana, and Wyoming "limit Obamacare" amendments (Florida had one on the ballot that was defeated).

How much money got flushed down the toilet in the campaign to put an amendment into the individual state constitutions that is already unenforceable?

i think that's really the key to the whole thing.. did't really matter if obama or romney won, the key is they need to start working together in congress

They had Karl Rove up there explaining why they might have pulled the trigger too soon. I was barely listening, though. Too sleepy.

What Rove's meltdown reminded me of:

TURN THOSE MACHINES BACK ON!!

Happy about the results both nationally and locally tonight.

Yeah, pretty awesome. Somehow, I didn't realize that the marriage thing was on the ballot until tonight when everyone on facebook went Derp level 11 on it.

One of my former High School friends was acting as if it abolished all marriage completely unless it was gay marriage.

Seem to me it's not that Maryland wants you to marry another dude. It's that in the grand scheme, they really don't care if two other dudes want to do it.

What I got out of last night was that America is wising up to the fact that there are 10% wingnuts on each side who are the loudest and get the most attention. But there's that 80% in the middle who really don't differ all that much on the whole. And if you keep siding with an extreme wing, you're not going to succeed.

Akin
Mourdock
Brown
Mandel

Trump's meltdown. Rove. McConnell's stupid comments. Only thing keeping me from being completely satisfied is that Michelle Bachman seems to have won again. She's ten pounds of crazy in a five pound bag.

Let's stop the extremes. And figure out how to fix shit, please. Wingnuts can sit in the corner and froth at the mouth. As long as they shut the fuck up when the grown ups are talking. The only thing we *need* to agree on is we all need to contribute.

The funny thing is, it already was outlawed. It's in the books, but the democrats were always going to win the state legislature this year so the more religious folk wanted some added protection for the law.

All kidding aside, I actually admire what Thomas did. He didn't agree with how things are and made a statement. He didn't go on the attack, he simply used his right to protest.

Yeah, we got hit with that crap in North Carolina back during the May primaries. Republicans took over the state legislature in NC for the first time in like 100 years and they quickly got their same sex marriage amendment on the ballot.

Flushed a crapload of money down the toilet to extra-super-duper-ban something that was already banned and wasn't going to become legal in NC unless the SCOTUS rules that gay marriage is protected under the Constitution, which would override NC's amendment anyhow.

Complete and total waste of time and money, without even discussing the merits of the amendment.
