Blindbaby, take a listen to that Opeth tune. I think you may dig their modern material. Very 70's prog influenced. Their earlier material was all progressive death metal. They did quite the turnaround over the years.

Decent, for sure. Seems to be a bit of a market (probably Eurocentric) for prog these day.

Pat Metheny is at the Greek Theater in LA tonight. Man what I'd give to be there!

Saw him in '95 in Van City. Easily the best concert I've seen as far as all aspects of sound go.

Yea, I love it. I was always big into 70's prog, so the whole revival scene is fucking awesome.

Good stuff, guys and gals. I hang out on a few music/musician sites and the convo in this thread surpasses any of the jaded stuff on all of those other sites.

Also, here's a fairly early jazz/prog piece from like 1959 at the Newport Jazz festival. It had a big influence of Pink Floyd and many jazzy groups thereafter.

And Tosin Abasi is just from another planet.

Also, Guthri Govan is definitely one of the best out there. He belongs on my list of the current best.

Those harmonized 32 notes from Guthri Govan were sick.

Another good band fusing the retro prog sound with a more modern heavy edge.

Oh man, could you imagine 'my favorite five guitarists' thread on somewhere like the Gear Page?
It would explode the interweb

Just bought this. Not a big fan of the finish, but the labor day deal was just too good to pass up. I was due for a new acoustic/electric anyway.

I would have recommended a Taylor but they can get pricey. Damn fine guitars though, I own a 100 series. One of the last ones made in the USA (I believe 200 series and under are now made in Mexico). Great sound for a $700 acoustic/electric. Ovations have their own distinct sound though.

Taylors are real nice. But I'm a brand loyal idiot, so I like to stay in the Fender family of instruments. This Ovation has a list of like 850, was for sale on Sweetwater for 600, then with the labor day sale it was 398. I couldn't pass that up, I've been wanting an Ovation for a while, but I didn't want a cheap Celebrity model, this is an Elite series. Like I said, the finish isn't the greatest, but it's not awful and the sound is good. I'll post one of my songs recorded on it once I get it on Friday.

I'd like to get a Takamine classic nylon guitar next. Maybe in the Winter.
