Rodrigo Y Gabriela

I have these 2 on my PVR, I think it was Austin City Limits.

Amazing stuff. Her especially.

My top 5:

Duane Allman
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Page
Stevie Vaughn
Eric Clapton (currently have 2 awesome retro BluRays of Cream and EC with Winwood, both very good)

An all time top five list for me is super difficult. But here goes my top 5 current favorites:

1. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd
2. Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth
3. Paul Masvidal of Cynic
4. Tosin Abasi of Animals As Leaders
5. Omar Rodríguez-López of The Mars Volta / Antemasque

The only change I would make to your list Hankela is Jeff Beck over Duane Allman.

That would be the greatest sin..... There is only one Skydog.... I can't imagine what he or Hendrix would be doing today had they lived.

I have Jeff in at #6. But could be convinced to replace either Clapton or Page with him in a pinch.

Have to admit, I've know of only one of them.

lol, I'm sure David Gilmour is that one you know.

Mikael is not all that technical... But he is one of the best songwriters today. This song has quite a long intro, but it's truly amazing. Just the little things he does. He plays guitar and sings.

And Tosin Abasi is just from another planet.

Also, Guthri Govan is definitely one of the best out there. He belongs on my list of the current best.

Blindbaby, take a listen to that Opeth tune. I think you may dig their modern material. Very 70's prog influenced. Their earlier material was all progressive death metal. They did quite the turnaround over the years.

Pat Metheny is at the Greek Theater in LA tonight. Man what I'd give to be there!

Mr. Gilmour it is.

I'm old enough to remember Sid...

Pat Metheny is amazing. HD, take a listen to that Animals As Leaders tune. About half way through there's a very Metheny-esque progression.

Very nice! I'd like to hear an acoustic quartet version of that.

There's no way to exaggerate the effect that Pat Metheny's music has had on me over the last 2+ years. I'm 41, been listening to all kinds of music my whole life and would have never thought that in 2012 I'd hear a track by a well-known guitar player and be totally blown away. I heard the intro track to Pat Metheny Group's "Secret Story" and ended up spending an entire weekend downloading PMG albums. I had listened to Bright Size Life for a long time and worn the CD out but somehow never knew about all the PMG stuff with Lyle Mays. Wow.

(my favorite all-time track. Hang with it. Still get goosebumps every time.)

Yea, Metheny is great to just zone out to. I listen to him and Guthrie Govan a lot. I'm not sure there is a player out there that has as good a sense for songwriting with as much technical prowess as Guthrie Govan. "Waves" is just stunning.

Tough to narrow it down
Hate to leave out satriani, clapton, Peter Green, or the iron Maiden guys.

The blues guys are great... But I'm just too much of a prog guy.

Leaving Allan Holdsworth off is tough... But I put him in the camp of guys that are just really technical. Listenability is very important, even in jazz fusion.

Eddie will always be on my list. From what I hear, he's not in real good shape.

The blues guys are great... But I'm just too much of a prog guy.

I went from Zeppelin and the Brothers and such to punk/new wave and have come back to my old slippers....

With a short reggae run in the middle.
