The answer is Rush, hands down.

There is a shitload of great Canadian music, too much to just say that it's Rush "hands down". The Guess Who, The Band, Anne Murray...

It's The Band. Rush is good too though.

The Band is one of the most underrated bands of all time. By far one of my favorites, and my pick for greatest Canadian band of all time. Good call.

Rush is so polarizing - I appreciate the talented members of the band, but I really don't like the music they produce.

Does that make any sense?

Rush is on my list of bands who I respect, but don't really like (although any time "Working Man" is on, I listen... that's a killer guitar solo, one of the best ever).

There are bands who's musical talent can't be denied, but whom I just don't really like, and there are bands that I just think are shit musically and have no respect for. Rush is the former. A lot of it is that voice... ugh, that fucking voice.

Like Opera singers. I realize they can sing. However, I have no idea what they're saying & it hurts my ears.

Tragically Hip

This is the correct answer. The Judges would also accept The Cowboy Junkies.

absolutely. they are each brilliant musicians. but their music is self-indulgent crap.
Geddy Lee's vocals don't help either.

Steve Vai is another example of that. Phenomenal technical musician.
90% of his songs, I never need to hear again.

Rush would have been one of the highest regarded Prog rock bands ever had Queen never existed. Queen just did everything better. I like Rush, and think their album "Roll the Bones" is one of the most under-rated albums of all time.

I have a friend in Ottawa who is always sending me stuff that I wish could get play down here. Some of the better stuff:

Econoline Crush

I urge you to listen to these two albums:

(Big Wreck - In Loving Memory Of...)

also, check out the band called "Grady". It's Gordie Johnson's (Big Sugar) other project.
co-incidentally, he was also the bassist in Wide Mouth Mason
