If two people want to act like idiots in a game night thread and talk about each others' mothers they deserve to be banned. A high percentage of their posts had no relevance to the game.

If they had even said things like: What?!?! That hit was clean, which is more than I can say for your mother's pussy!!

or

"Clean? He took 10 strides and drilled him from behind. Ask your jailbird father if HE thinks that's clean?"

I'd say that is funny and a real contribution to the GNT.

Just calling each other cock breath and ass muncher is dumbing down the board... unless you are 9 years old and find profanity for the sake of profanity funny and/or insightful.

Dash, you've done a great job so far. This board is a pretty damn good HOCKEY board and you and the other mods have played a huge role in that. I hope you reconsider leaving as a mod. If you don't though, thanks for a year of excellent work in a thankless job.

OK, what would you have done?
game night thread discussion, plenty of people discussing the game, and a raving lunatic come in and calls an increasing number of posters every name under the sun.
It was detrimental to the thread, and detrimental to the board.
If he wanted to start a shit-talking thread or whatever to vent his frustrations, maybe he would have had some takers. But he derailed a thread for a lot of other people.

I didn't PM the mods, but in hindsight, I probably should have as well. I just closed that thread and didn't go back. Which is a shame, because I rather enjoy the GNTs.
I fully support their decision in this case.

So I'm sure it will be pointed out I haven't been here that long and I just need to mind my own business. But seriously. What is the big deal? If the mods actions can't be talked about on the board. Then what should they do? And if punishment is really that inconsistent then it's only a matter of time until we're all banned. In which case it really wouldn't be much of a board.

As someone who was present for that thread. It clearly got out of hand for most of the people who had to witness it. It's not a case of not having thick skin. If this board didn't have shit talkers there would like three people left on it. But things got personal and uncomfortable. So if they're allowed to get away with that then when new posters come around and see those kinds of actions when do you think will happen? How many people do you think this place will really be able to hand onto if we're allowed to blatantly personally attack each other?

More then one person in that thread expressed that fact they felt it had gotten out of hand. The smart, polite and adult thing for the parties involved at that point to do would of been to back off and take it else where. It was their choice to to keep on acting in the way they did. If you want to stick up for your friend (I'm assuming he's your friend.) that's fine. But you may want to consider going about it a different way. Because choosing to attack what most people think makes this board worth coming to really won't get your far.

I was waiting for something like this!!

I was "there" during that GNT and in my opinion harsh words were said towards each other, even some comments that crossed the line personally. Its one thing to swear at somebody, call them an ass fucker or a donkey humper, but if you start to talk shit about a poster's mom, dad, children, religious beliefs or anything other than what team the poster is a fan of, then to me that is going too far. That's how I feel. Some people may not see things that way and think that anything & anyone is far game once you log on to SportsHoopla.

If seeing those comments offended some posters, then you have a right to PM the mod, and also have a right to step away from the computer and not take things so personally. I would vote for some sort of "Block User" option. If you don't like what someone has to say at a certain time, block them!

Other than that...

I take no offense what other non-nhl posters think about this place. I have my own thoughts about the stuff they post and how they act with each other. But that's the way it is. I don't take anything here personal.
