Moving between Canada and the US should really be a lot fucking easier than it currently is. I've been involved with trying to move in both directions, and basically it ruined my life.

My experience (at least working in the US as a Canadian) has been relatively smooth (although it's been almost 10 years since I last worked in the States). Conversely (as 43 pointed out), it's more difficult for US citizens to legally work in Canada.

Even going in to Canada for a short work stint can be a pain in the ass. I frequently go up for a week or two at a time, and I've been grilled pretty good on why I'm there, etc.

Went so far as to get a Nexus card to try to avoid some of it.

Yeah, it was more coming up here. Like 43 said, her field wasn't "in demand" and long story short it cost me a good relationship. C'est la.

Never understood it. I mean, we're basically the same damn country, people!

NEXUS is a god send. That, combined with my EU passport, and I basically don't talk to customs agents anymore.

The extent of nexus line questioning at peace arch is "do you have any alcohol or tobacco?"

My opinion on the refugee issue is this: You can't get 25,000 people here by the end of the year unless you do stringent background checks on them. I think Trudeau may have to backtrack on this promise.

Unfortunately they still pull people out of the Nexus line occasionally for random questioning. Hasn't happened to me yet, but happened to a colleague. They almost sent him home.

Mrs 43 is a teacher, and she could have come in at any time. Seems Canada values talented educators.

Nerds? not so much.

Haven't checked recently with my recent (last 7 years) drastic change in job skills if it's still the case. Pretty happy in Columbus and have a company in England I work with that would love me to come there.

YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE CANADA

that funny because my bro and his fiance are pulling up stakes and heading south in the near future ... his fiance is/was a teacher changing careers courtesy of her mother (a canadian) who is an executive with a credit union in california

(from what ive been told) she cant get a work visa in her new field in business because she lacks experience and she was told by an immigration lawyer she wouldnt get one if she chose to use her teaching degree and work as a teacher in the US either

meanwhile my hipster doofus brother with no discernible skills was told he would have an easier time getting one :noidea:

We could use more of those talented educators in British Columbia.

/Actually, my daughter was fortunate, she hooked up with a great math teacher and she's doing very well.

Letter from Saskatchewan premier incites hatred: Winnipeg Muslim leader

A letter penned to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is disappointing members of Manitoba's Muslim community.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall sent Trudeau a letter Monday asking him to reconsider the federal government's plan to take in 25,000 Syrian refuges by the end of 2015.

"If even a small number of individuals who wish to do harm to our country are able to enter Canada as a result of a rushed refugee resettlement process, the results could be devastating," Wall's letter stated.

Breaking - officers wounded in apartment raid in Saint-Denis France. Explosions and heavy gunfire heard in Paris suburb.

Doesn't sound like the officers had the element of surprise.

It's been ongoing for a few hours now. According to some reports of locals, gunfire began at 4am (11pm est). Just saw a video that showed trucks full of soldiers being brought to the scene. Unreal. This is a suburb.

It's like Boston, but Euro style.
