No, Alabama wasn't that bad. We had good seasons before Saban. We had some bad ones too, but we were already on the climb back up.

Saban's first season was a step down because he literally cleaned house when he arrived. Discipline was lacking under Shula. Hell, just google "Jimmy Johns Alabama", and I'm not talking about the restaurant.

weren't they 7 or 8 win seasons at best?

Can you use a bigger font please? Trying to read that through 3 of these is a bit difficult.

BCS-trophy-390x220.jpg

The problem with that trophy, is that in 20 years it will be looked as a joke. The shortest lived example to crown the NC, with Bama's do overs, teams left out.. I wouldn't be surprised to see anybody in the next 20 years who mentions a BCS title to be the laughing stock of ANY message board...

Bear died in the early 80's and Alabama missed their chance by not hiring Bowden. Everything was torn apart about Bear this and Bear that. Finally got Gene Stallings, who was another who got skipped out on for awhile and of course we all know what happened to Miami then.

Way too political on campus in that time.

Bottom line, you guys had a rocky path the last 25 years. Not until the last 5 have you been the top of the CFB world.

Until Nebraska won those titles they were the Boise St of college football going years without beating a top 20 team. Nope, that's actually an insult to Boise St. They were in the big 8 where only Oklahoma was a challenge and OU stunk in much of the 80s and 90's. Be careful with your comment about this because I will be glad to show you OU's record. :L They piled up great records for years only to lose every time they played a ranked team. If it wasn't for those wins(94,95 and 97) they would not have near the respect a team with their record should have.

Those 4 years did more for Nebraska than the previous 20 where they had great overall records but were looked at as a paper tiger. Seriously, go look. Great records with absolutely no substance! Anyone old enough knows what I'm talking about. I was at the 1978 Alabama 20-3 win on a Monday night on National TV. Ya'll were a strong team in the 70's but in the 80's and 90's until the 1994 championship Nebraska was severely overrated. Since about 2002 they have now gone back to the pre-championship years. NO, actually much worse! Those 4 years sure did a lot for yall! :suds:

:wtf:

These are just bowl wins over Team SEC in the timeframe you're referring.

December 20, 1969 Nebraska 45 Georgia 6 1969 Sun Bowl
January 1, 1971 Nebraska 17 LSU 12 1971 Orange Bowl* (National Championship)
January 1, 1972 Nebraska 38 Alabama 6 1972 Orange Bowl* (National Championship)
December 31, 1974 Nebraska 13 University of Florida 10 1974 Sugar Bowl
December 27, 1980 Nebraska 31 Mississippi State 17 1980 Sun Bowl
January 1, 1983 Nebraska 21 LSU 20 1983 Orange Bowl
January 1, 1985 Nebraska 28 LSU 10 1985 Sugar Bowl
January 1, 1987 Nebraska 30 LSU 15 1987 Sugar Bowl

these team SECers don't realize the SEC didn't start becoming really dominant until about 2004.

10 in 2005.

But the 2 losses were LSU and Auburn, so that put us out of the SEC West and any further progression.

Also 10 in 2002, but again another loss to Auburn.

The biggest reason they were the "dark ages" is because we lost so many in a row to Auburn.

OK I tried to just be humble but now it's time. Try not to get your keyboard wet with tears! Someone mentioned 5,000 sq foot facility earlier. Try 37,000!

The new weight room has 21,000-square feet on the first level and 16,000-square feet on the second level. The ground level consists of the weight room that is highlighted by 20 combination racks that feature platforms that are built into the ground for a level surface that provides a safer workout environment. Great video from the best strength coach in the country, Scott Cochran!

2000 was the worst. Preseason #3, all hyped up, lose first game to UCLA and then only win 3 all year.

:gaah:

so Alabama had 3 good seasons in 10 years. Rest were complete trash.

Doesn't look like the "dark ages" were just losses to Auburn, unless you guys played Auburn 5-9 times a year? Also shall we mention the hiring of Mike Price.

:L Is this guy just a guniune troll and doesn't know shit about football, but simply because he has Alabama reference in his name and in his avy people assume he has knowledge of the sport and history? In what time period are you talking here bud? Nebraska has been legit since 1960...

Bro. Alabama was SHIT until Saban's second year. Sorry to some of our good Tide posters here who have been here for awhile, but this dude is a joke. Alabama sucked monkey dick since '01-'08, and before that weren't they on heavy sanctions for most of the 90s? You've been relevant for the last 4-5 years, before that you guys were nothing but a dusty history book.

Did an Oregon fan really just say that? Just because you don't have the nuts or the history to state that don't butt in. It is a fact! More to football than records and if youre going to be ranked high than the standards are high. Do you know anything about the big 8? Didn't want to do it but here you go!
I am about to do a little research with true numbers for you so I'll be back Mr. Duck and all those historical years of being right in the middle of records! All losing but they were records (sorry Mamba) but when OregonDucks is going to talk shit he better know what he's talking about! Before I go you do know that in the Big 8 Iowa St sucked, Kansas sucked, Oklahoma St sucked,Colorado sucked most the time,Missouri sucked, Kansas St sucked. And OU was bad much of the 80's and 90's. I'll be back with your data.

Obviously they weren't great years.

But you do not understand what it means to lose to Auburn. A season can be saved so long as you beat Auburn.

If the Big 8 sucked, so did the SEC. Again, the SEC didn't become super dominant until about 2004. they had Tennessee and Florida in the 90s, that's about it. Georgia in the 80s.

Hell, most conferences all "sucked" compared to your definition back in the day, most conferences only had 2 or 3 good teams each year. Football back then isn't like it is today where conferences can be 5 good teams deep.

But go ahead waste your time digging up shit from the 1940s.

and I just did a quick search on the big 8. Where you get off that Oklahoma sucked in the 80s? They won 5 conference titles. In the 90s they were on probation for most the decade, similar to Alabama.

And do you realize that in the Big 8. When Nebraska and Oklahoma played it wasn't like it was just the two best teams within the Big 8. It was #1 vs #2 in the country most of the time.
