I did take my version of OBP from the formula for runs created... I think it is a much better statistic...

Why what?? why did i take my OBP formula from the runs created formula?? Because it was there and i liked what i saw... If a stat exists somewhere else why not use it if you like it??

Dont have to, it is going to pretty much give the same number as the traditional OBP since GIDP and CS does not happen enough to affect the result significantly... i guess though by changing the formula slightly it changes the purpose of the stat slightly.

But i would never compare advanced statistics with traditional statistics... I would never use my OBP and add it to the traditional slugging to get OPS...

Yes batting average was discussed but nobody said it should be discounted. You think you're making smart points but so far all I've seen out of you is insults and profanity. Yeah, you're a really intelligent individual. Read the thread again and then get back to us numb nuts.

You want to know how often you get a hit, and how many bases you got from the hits, right? sounds pretty simple to me. Rather than how often you got on base, and how many bases you got for each hit?

Is there stat that tracks PAP?

Boiling it down, OBP tells you how often a player makes an out, SLG tells you how much damage they do when they dont make an out. Combining them gives a good idea about a hitter.

Walks also run up pitch counts, you just cant leave them out imho.

Can someone explain to me why OPS is OBP + Slugging and not BA + slugging(name would change to BAPS).

Slugging and OBP are totally different stats... Slugging uses At bats while OBP uses total plate appearances... The purpose of OBP is to see the amount someone gets on base, while the purpose of slugging is to see how productive someone is per AB... wouldnt it make more sense for it to be BA and slugging since they both use AB, and they are both purely "hitting" stats??? Unless someone can convince me otherwise, i think OPS shows ignorance to the true purpose of the stats...

I understand what you are saying. In a Mathematical sense, its illogical. Same like K/BB rate.. the Math behind it, is illogical, but the Results look fairly accurate...

But Walks Do have Value and OBP Illustrates a certain type of Value. The Value of creating Opportunities. Which is why its better than BA.

If 2 guys have the same Slugging, the guy Committing Outs at a higher rate is worse. That simple. If you have 2 guys with the same Slugging and BA.. But one has a higher Walk Rate. The Guy with the Higher BB rate is better not only because he is creating more Opportunities...He is committing outs at a lower rate.

The Guy who went 3-3 with 3 singles created 3 Opportunities. The Guy who went 1-3 with a triple created only 1 opportunity and Costed 2 outs.

Value in Baseball SHOULD be by plate appearances.

Personally. I like the the Concept behind wOBA. But I don't like the exact.
formula it uses...

The Math may be illogical...but OBP+ SLUG is More Encompassing than BA + SLUG

Which is why its preferd.
