C'mon Kenny. Carkner has 27 points in his career. Probert and Semenko both put up more in one season.

As I've said before, I'm not here to defend Neal. He deserves the criticism he receives.

Carkner a defenseman who played 17 minutes per game one year in Ottawa and was even on the +/- board. He's no star but he's a legitimate bottom pairing defense, or at least was for several years.

Probert was a decent player but Semenko was not very good and probably wouldn't have been on that team if not for his fighting.

We're getting off topic here though. Neal is NOT there to protect players. In fact I would argue that his behavior makes others on his team more of a target.

You know as well as I do they would never enforce such draconian suspensions, especially not across the board. And really if the league started doing that, I'd rather not watch anymore, the actual game would take a backseat to the talk of suspensions.

no, they wouldn't. because like i think you've said in this thread, how much do they really care about eliminating this stuff? but i dont' think the suspension talk would overtake the league. it might for a season or two until the finality of cheap shots set in and they stopped happening. but the teams and players would adjust and suspension talk would eat up even less time than it does now (which is quite a lot as is btw, even without crazy punishments).

and my example is probably a little over the top, i just wanted to make the point that if you really wanted cheap shots to go away, and keep the heated, hate filled, nature of hockey, you absolutely could.

Kidding... mostly.

I do have to wonder what impact mandatory suspensions/discipline would have. The biggest issue with league discipline has always been the "judgement" aspect whether it be Campbell or Shanny. Too much inconsistency.

Have the three sides (ref, player and GM) meet to review and determine if it's incidental contact. Then, look at the history and punish as needed.

literally lol'd. i love that movie.

i'm open to the panel review, refs, players, gm, etc. just offering an alternative solution if you REALLY wanted to get it out of the game.

i dont like the lip service the NHL gives to cheap shots and/or diving. same goes for soccer, they give all this lip service about diving. if you want stuff in your league to go away, you can make it go away. if you're fine with the way it is, then don't say anything about it and let people whine about it.

I wouldn't use the word legimate when describing Carkner. At best through his career he's a seventh defenseman. His role throughout his career is an enforcer. And if it weren't for his fighting ability, much like you described Semenko, he would not have a job in this league.

Standard operating procedure for the Bruins, take cheapshots and then call the other teams 'chicken' or 'divers' classy org.

#AskNeal Why do players keep trying to victimize you with vicious headbutts to your knees and elbows?

Oh my, that's good.

I'm assuming that Lucic jab was after the Emelin hit that looked a tad low to this hockey viewer...

Did it actually even make contact?? If it did it was not much but of course in that area not much is too much.

What a dive!

I kinda thought so at first, but most hockey pants have nothing there except stretchy mesh. And cups only cover the front, old school jocks have nothing there.

I think the plums are pretty sore there. Direct marble contact.

At least Emelin didn't look at the ref before falling down.

So a priest, a nun, and a rabbi walk into a bar, which one gets cross checked first? #AskNeal

If you mean the hip check - yeah it was after it. Two periods and a half periods after it.

Also in the video you can just about see Pierre Macguire jerkin' off between the glass as he verbally fellated the Bruins.
