Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News became a target of much scorn and derision when he named goalie Ray Emery of the Philadelphia Flyers the No. 3 star on Friday night for giving up four goals in relief and beating up Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby.

“I didn’t pick him as a traditional third star because he played a good game,” said Seravalli. “I happened to find it entertaining.”

His argument was that Emery got the crowd going, and that even his teammates didn’t have a problem with his actions.

“It was a circus of a game and I found that part of it to be entertaining,” he said. “From all the Flyers players I’ve talked to, none of them had a problem with it.”

Seravalli goes into the three-star selections for the Capitals, how the Flyers have asked him not to select them any longer, his controversial reporting on Steve Downie’s suspension and other topics.

Blue Jackets are starting Tabasco in net tonight. Ottawa is going with the Lehner.

Given the Jackets ability to shine up ANY goalie's skill level combined with the fact that Lehner is probably chomping at the bit to play... It's not gonna be pretty for the Jackets.

I like starting McIlhenny though. Bob needs to get comfortable and the guys on the ice need to be more responsible with the puck. Whether consciously on unconsciously they will be with the backup in. Tabasco's been solid, but the Sens have some firepower.

Out for Columbus:
Horton (On pace for mid December debut.)
Jenner (Skated today - still a few weeks away)
Calvert (Skated with conditioning coach - 1-3 weeks away)
Savard - Healthy Scratch.

Jackets are against the wall. How they come out in this one will tell us a lot about them.

Paul Maclean was a finalist for the Jackets coaching job when they hired Arniel. 1) Shows what a terrible judge of anything Howson was, and 2) God I hope he doesn't hold grudges...

Not to worry 43. The Sens have been making a habit of making backup tenders look like the second coming of Jacques Plante. :L

Throw in their burgeoning traditions of passing the puck to the other team more often than to each other and giving up 40 + shots against every night and the BJs look good at home tonight.

Poor Lehner. SV% of 0.938 and winless in 5 games this season.

This is a big game for both teams though. The loser ends up even deeper in a hole and the winner closes the gap on 8th place. Let's hope we see a decent effort from both squads.

Anyone catch that ridiculous save Mason made on the Canes?

Just wait for the nightly highlights if not...

Just saw that, it's like a Penguins/Flyers game over there.

Though I'm wondering how much longer I can make that joke as we slide closer and closer to less than one goal per game status in Philly...
