I was in a Reddit game thread where everyone was going nuts on the refs saying they were costing us the game when Carolina was outshooting us 22 to 6.

Before Dennis Wideman hit linesman Don Henderson, the Flames were one of if not the least penalized team in the league. They became one of the most penalized teams in the league after the hit. Looks like the "Wideman effect" was very real.

did they really fire the ref tho? They only took him off games just 5 weeks before he retired. its an easy call to make for the NHL. If the NHL really wanted to make a statement and Gary Bettman really wanted to show us he cared... he would fire Jim Benning and Trade Louie Eriksson
