It's not just the trade - it's the fact it was the final trade of the deadline and the build up to the press conference was unusual - and then a true WTF when the announcement actually came. It was brilliant and nearly flawless in its execution. And the fact no insiders were able to ruin it made it all the better. If I was the Caps, I'd consider raising a banner for this feat which will probably never be duplicated again.

Forsberg was the best player on earth not in the NHL and he was traded for a guy who had never been the best player in whatever arena he was in at the time.

It was and remains a terrible trade but at the time of the deal Forsberg wasn't even a PPG player in the Allvenskan (tier 2 in Sweden). I don't know about best player outside the NHL.

I remember a lot of scouting reports called him that. Granted, they do over hype prospects. But still, it's not like nobody saw the potential.

I don't think it was that they didn't know what Forsberg could be though. They just thought they were a piece away from a Cup at the time. Bad trade, yeah. But I understand why they did it. It just happened to be the wrong move. Like very bigly wrong.

The Rangers got Brassard and Dorsett that deadline for Gaborik+, which worked out very well for them (Brassard had 44 pts in 60 playoff games over the next 4 years).

That was also the deadline Calgary traded Iggy and JBo for draft picks (and drafted terribly, which is funny because the Caps drafted Burakovsky one pick after Calgary took Poirier).

GMGM probably had better options than trade his best prospect for Martin Erat. I can't even think of another time that a team traded their best prospect at the deadline.

That was a poor trade for the Caps. Forsberg has developed into a top player in the NHL.

Preds just had a goal in the last second of a game stolen from them because of a phantom Goaltender Interference call that the Panthers didn't even challenge.

Puck went into Luongo, he didn't move. Arvidsson poked at it, it squirted loose and Forsberg put it in with .5 seconds left. So, goaltender interference is apparently whenever anyone touches a goalie. Lupngo wasn't even trying to make a save, so they can't say he wasn't able to play his position. He thought he had it and he didn't.


Fucking bullshit.
