Record achievements in the mix for Ovehckin in the final games of the season:
  • If he continues to hold the lead in the goals, he'll be the first player to lead the NHL in goals in 8 different seasons. Bobby Hull did it 7 times with a handful of other players doing it 5 or 6 times.
  • With two more goals (and assuming nobody else makes it to 50 goals this year), Ovechkin would be the only man at 50 goals or more for the fifth time in his career. Bobby Hull did it four times. Nobody else has ever done it twice.

I think Ovie's going to end up being the best goal scorer ever. If he gets the 2 achievements mentioned by @elocomotive then that'll make more of a case for him.

I hope beyond hope that those two teams are Los Angeles and Anaheim.

He's certainly in the top 5. I think there is definitely a case for best ever given the era he's in and his records against his contemporaries vs. the people he's chasing against their contemporaries. The strike season and a half lost probably cost him 60-80 goals. He'd probably be around 730 career goals by this season's end without those work stoppages, so that's a shame.

But of the 13 players ahead of him on the all-time goal scoring list, their average career span was 22.4 years. If Ovechkin can have similar health and play for 8 more seasons, he'd only need to average 17 goals a year to pass Gordie Howe for second and 28.8 goals per year to pass Gretzky. Either is a tall order. But if he has a couple more 40-50 goal season in him (and I think he does with how his goal scoring has evolved), he could certainly catch #99. It's an intriguing thought.

He is simply the greatest player on any team I have ever cheered for and it's been a tremendous pleasure getting to watch him play. Going to the arena and wondering what he might do on any given night has been awesome. (And watching Backstrom's mastery of the saucer pass ain't been too bad either.)

Not sure how wide the release of this film will be, obviously Detroit will be getting it.

Good win by Tampa last night. Kucherov didn't get a point and they still won by 3. They're playing some great hockey right now.

They've clinched their CONFERENCE with 9 games to go. Don't see that very often.

I guess the Flames should have selected Kucherov instead of Tyler Wotherspoon.
