This season the NHL has continued cracking down on smaller goalie equipment. Last year it was “form fitting” pants. This year they’ve tackled the chest protectors.

So far, the Flyers’ starting goalie is not a fan.

“I’ve already sent a couple emails to Kay Whitmore (the NHL’s vice president of hockey operations who literally signs off on every piece of goalie equipment). I’m getting bruised like crazy on my arms,” Brian Elliott said. “I think that’s the biggest issue, they take away padding in the arms. It seems like every shot that you take that’s not clean on your blocker or in your glove, it’s leaving a mark.”
