I like both of these ideas...

2. Shrink the end zones to where they were before the blue line was pushed out in 2005-06.
This one comes courtesy of the great Scotty Bowman. The neutral zone was shrunk from 54 feet to 50 feet in 2005, the idea being that the bigger zones from the blue line in would allow for more offense. But now all you get is five players collapsing down low to block shots. Bowman's idea is that if we go back to old dimensions, maybe the wingers would have to cover defensemen like they used to and open up more ice underneath. Not to mention point men would be closer to the net when taking their shots. When in doubt, trust the NHL's all-time winningest coach.

3. Put the center red line back in as far as counting two-line passes. This one comes from a Hockey Hall of Famer who shall remain nameless, as per his request. But his contention is that with no red line, all defensemen have to do these days is bang the puck off the glass in the hope of hitting their forwards in the neutral zone. He feels that if you put the center red line back in, defensemen will be under more pressure to make a play, a real pass, so as to avoid the two-line pass, and that should lead to more mistakes and therefore more scoring opportunities off those. I agree.

LeBrun: What I'd do if I were commissioner

Also a fan of serving the full penalty regardless if a goal is scored or not.

Yeah, I like that one as well.

/Of course, with the Flames PP this season, they should just decline and take the yardage.

Either that or switch it to you getting your guy back if you score a shorty.

That would seem to encourage more conservative play by the team with the man advantage, thereby decreasing goals/offense.

And lead to more aggressive PK, which could open the play up a bit.

I don't think you can stop guys from blocking shots, but how about they need to stay upright to block shots (no more going down to the ice).

I doubt this actually. I don't think the risk/reward ratio is where it needs to be for that decision.

That was Bob Gainey's proposal years ago. I do not really want a new rule but watching players block shots before they ever get to the goalie, especially 5 on 5 in the first period, is not really exciting IMO.

They're always looking for ways to increase scoring, so I had a radical idea the other day...

how about A WIN IN THE BANK!!

Seriously though. Make a soft coating for the posts and crossbar. Benefits are:

1. Pucks hitting the post don't go flying out of play or out of danger like they do now. With a soft post or crossbar the puck lays there in danger of being whacked in.

2. You could make the edges of the post/crossbar sharper so that more pucks are directed into the net rather than out of it.

3. Not many guys get hurt on the the net anymore but padded posts would slightly reduce injuries. \

Am I crazy or would this make for a little more scoring.

How about for all power plays use two pucks in play? Much tougher to defend and a goalie would have to cover both to get a whistle.

Then coaches would probably just use two goalies

With the Habs requesting Zach Kassian not to report to St. John's of the AHL, HNIC is speculating Kassian to the Sharks because of the Bob Boughner connection (was his junior coach in the OHL).

And with that, this game is officially out of reach.

I'm just glad the coaching staff is supposedly safe because injuries are being blamed for the Habs woes. I don't care if Price is in net, if you can't score 3 goals you're not going to win often.

Flat, uninspired, and boring games for about a month now. I've seen a lot of bad hockey that is still entertaining, this is just crap.

Plenty of effort from the Habs tonight, comeds, but a lot of it is around the perimeter where it's tough to score. Not enough guys going to the tough, dirty areas.
