2008's draft was awesome for defense. Karlsson and Doughty in the same draft is awesome. As to yakupov, Edmonton looks like they'll finally get rid of him. Going to be interesting to see what they get back and if Yak's career can revive itself in Chicago.

Looking at 2008 even more it illustrates how much of a crapshoot it is drafting goalies.

1st goalie taken (18th) Chet Pickard. No NHL games
Last goalie taken (207 overall): Anders Lindback. 150 NHL Games

Lindback and Pickard were picked by the same team.

I sure hope Chia doesn't pry Gustav Forsling out of Chicago for Yak.

i havent seen Forsling play this preseason but heard all the positive reports on him ... BUT ... going back to the "what good teams do" ... is it possible BHawks have pumped his tires/played him with guys to the point where people are overrating him

/i see they are playing him with Campbell tonight

Probably means he's still asking for a pretty penny. Looks like Russell is playing a game of chicken. He better hope it's not with a train because it could end up being the trans-Siberian.

Hey Kenny I see Thomas Chabot is starting the season with Ottawa. Is it looking like he'll have a spot for the whole season or can we expect to see him back in junior at some point this season? We'd really like to have him back for one more year please! :) A Memorial cup every 6 years isn't too much to ask, is it? With Chabot back I think the Sea Dogs would be one of the favourites, definitely the favourite from the Q.

Last I read he wasn't for sure making the team out of camp but probably will start the season. If I had to guess I'd say he gets a taste and then goes back to the Q. I think that would be best for him too.

That sounds good to me. I don't see the point in burning a year of his contract just to keep him as a 6th or 7th d-man.

I think the above five will all clear waivers.

Edit: It also looks that Chris Higgins has made the Flames opening day roster.

re: Drafting goalies, it is a crapshoot, 2 best goalies of all time are Roy and Hasek- Not 1st rounders.

Yakupov to St. Louis appears to be a done deal - Don't know the return as of yet though.

Yakupov to St Louis for a conditional pick.

That's it?!?

Edit: For Zach Pochiro and the conditional pick is a 2017 3rd rounder.

Blues acquire Yakupov from Oilers

Why sell low on Yak? Was it really essential to move him now?
