I immediately question a methodology which ranks Hornqvist that high. I love the guy, but at best he's a good second-line RW.
In reading some of the rationale behind the rankings, it appears things like puck recovery and stripping the opponent of the puck give you higher defensive numbers than if you don't. But what if you are on the ice and don't have to play d as much? Apparently that means you suck defensively.

If you're trying to convince me that you'd rather have Jordan Eberle on your team than Phil Kessel, well you'd better have plenty of alcohol close by.

At least we can all agree Brendan Gallagher is the the 9th best RW in the league.

Puck recovery means you don't have it to begin with, after all.

And it awards players for doing things while shorthanded. There aren't a lot of first-line wingers who are also killing penalties. There are other guys who can do that, and those skill guys can be saved to use their energy to, you know, score goals.

And that James Kneel is better than Marian Hossa.

Meh, give me guys who will sacrifice their bodies and pay the price blocking shots, I don't need any fancy goal scorers.

I sound like a curmudgeon, even though I'm likely younger than most, if not all posters here... but fuck these fancy stats. Hockey and football to me, I'd much rather have the "eye test" as opposed to hearing about how a player plays better between the hash marks in his own zone without the puck while shorthanded and without his helmet and dropped his stick than another...wish this nerd revolution never hit the sport.

that sucks. he was a beast in junior. not scoring wise, but a beast.
also, in beer league when a guy tried to fight him, and he said "really? it's a bad idea."
the poor schmuck insisted and Sasha ended it very, very quickly.

I know one of lakovics cousins and he was telling me tonight about sasha, after one of his minor league regular seasons ended, coming back into town and going to his younger brothers highschool to fight 5 wanna be gang guys who were after his brother. Apparently they all had weapons and he kicked the shit out if them all. Could u imagine a pro hockey player doing something like that today lol

/also was told he is part of the concussion lawsuit v the nhl
