It's 41 games, which is 33% of his Leaf career. It's also an entire calendar year, spanning over two seasons and three coaches with a very long summer in between in which he was given $8 million over 2 years. I don't think it's unfair to ask questions after that amount of time.

He might be salvageable, but again it's always going to be tougher for him because of his height. Dubnyk is one of the tallest goalers in the league, which is a huge advantage. This is from last season, but the list of guys who are Bernier's height or smaller isn't very impressive:

6-foot-0 (6)
Jonathan Bernier, Toronto Maple Leafs
Viktor Fasth, Edmonton Oilers
Evgeni Nabokov, New York Islanders
Antti Raanta, Chicago Blackhawks
Alex Stalock, San Jose Sharks
Niklas Svedberg, Boston Bruins

5-foot-11 (3)
Jaroslav Halak, New York Islanders
Anton Khudobin, Carolina Hurricanes
Dustin Tokarski, Montreal Canadiens

5-foot-10 (1)
Jhonas Enroth, Buffalo Sabres

Who the hell said that it was unfair to simply "ask questions"? You're talking about much more than that here, no?

If the height thing is such an obstacle how does he have a .914 career SV%? He's always been the same height, right? Why is it suddenly causing a problem where it didn't before?

I feel like we've been through this kind of thing recently with the Leafs, with a goalie that put up a .921 SV% and then unexpectedly fell off to .900 the next year.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think Stamkos ain't going back to Tampa. Still his inconsistency would scare me off him, I wouldn't give him a lucrative deal.

All I said to begin with was:

There's something else at play here than bad luck.

If you're taking issue with that, then it really seems like you believe he's being unfairly targeted. I haven't really gone beyond that in any subsequent responses I don't think.

And maybe the holes that get left exposed by his disadvantage have been figured out by opposing teams/coaches? If you look at his first season with the Leafs he dropped off significantly from the first half of the season to the second half as well, although it was from .930 to .916. In fact, every half season his sv% has declined. There isn't any metric you can use to say Bernier is a better goalie now than he was when he arrived and that's concerning as hell.

Before you made that comment about luck you were talking about not playing him and/or getting rid of him (at a point in time where you won't get anything for him), no?

More just talking about his current value.

Also said I'd much rather the drunk dickhead have been scouting Lupul or Bozak. I haven't entirely given up on Bernier either, just don't like the way things are trending.

Senators can't generate any offense tonight so they call a phantom major on Tom Wilson for "Being Tom Wilson" to give them a chance in this one.

Caps have been outstanding this game. Suffocating defense.

EDIT - Saw the replay. They gave him a major and a match penalty for a legal hit on a guy with the puck. Unbe-fucking-lievable.

Off topic, but holy shit did I ever play terribly tonight. Heavy heavy legs all game. Don't those games just drive you nuts? Probably the worst I've played (relatively speaking) in 5 years or so.

The most frustrating part is that it was a 7-1 win, so I had to hide my unhappiness until I was away from everyone.

Many angles of that Wilson hit.

Pucks on stick, check in shoulder, no contact with head (though apparently Lazar's neck is made of springs), not even at high speed or any kind of charge (just lane skating). Clean hit.

Wait, I am given to believe that the refs are conspiring against the Sens. What gives?

He is unworthy of the number.

Ridiculous call.

I would expect that major to be rescinded.

I guess during the infamous Canucks - Flames brawl at Rogers Arena, Kassian was mouthing off towards the Flames bench and Giordano said to Kassian that he was going to be out of the league within five years. Looks like Gio was being generous.

still kind of funny to me that the Canucks actually won a Kassian trade twice.

It can't be as bad as my last game on Friday. Sure I scored a goal but I just confirmed yesterday that I tore my ACL.

May turn out to be my last game indeed. :pout:

That really sucks, hope the rehab process goes as well as it can.
