Thus why I mentioned Shanahan - likely limited Nonis' budget for glorified third liners so that he was out of the running quickly.

Possibly, but I'm not sure why this should be called "likely".

Are you and I the only ones who wanted to see this guy land in Edmonton??

That's a Chiarelli kind of player right there!!!

Oilers top line after 2 weeks of Kass time.

I guess during the infamous Canucks - Flames brawl at Rogers Arena, Kassian was mouthing off towards the Flames bench and Giordano said to Kassian that he was going to be out of the league within five years. Looks like Gio was being generous.

Kenny, Stoll has to be happy he was claimed by Minnesota, I mean Minnesota has plenty of snow this time of year.

Lots of rumo(u)rs swirling that the Flames are talking to the Leafs about Bernier and Hiller going to the Leafs. if you want to lose games, Hiller is the man you want (lol).

Another gem from Simmons today:

It doesn't happen often, but I actually agree with him on this one. I'm not saying you start him 90% of the time and sit Reimer on the bench or anything like that, but I'm fine with keeping him up and playing him.

Babs did just name Sparks the starter tomorrow night.

There would have to be some sort of pick attached coming Toronto's way given Bernier's control and career numbers if you completely and totally forget that the year 2015 occurred, but, eh why not.

But I'm hoping Burke's just coming calling on one of his famed Toronto-era acquisitions - Lupul or Bozak would be a fantastic addition to the Flames!

Who else would be coming with Hiller?

Since Hiller has an expiring contract, I don't think anybody else has to come along. Do you think Bernier will have a lot of suitors based on his performance this season? Leafs have a goalie glut at the moment with the emergence of Sparks.

Well, the chances they send a $4 million goalie to the A permanently is slim so I think he's going to get games so long as he's with the Leafs regardless.

But right now, if Reimer gets healthy and picks up where he left off why would you give Bernier anything other than the token start now and then?

EDIT: And in terms of right now, Sparks has performed pretty damn well so why not go with him over Bernier as well? If he starts slippin, okay, but until then...

Well, not like Shanahan has been flawless. Nonis did sign Robidas to a 3 year deal under Shanahan's nose.

It's also not like signing Bolland to the deal that Nonis offered would have been a good deal anyway. So if Shanny approved it he was still on board with doing something incredibly stupid regarding Bolland.

McIlhinney costs less and is just as capable of losing games.

In fact, he hasn't won one yet.

Why would Toronto be willing to trade a goalie for a goalie? I could see them trading Bernier for a pick, but not an NHL goalie when they've got three of them. Arizona should be talking to Toronto about one of their goalies. They just lost Smith for 8 to 10 weeks.
