Just going by Bobby Mac's survey of scouts a couple weeks ago:I would actually be very surprised if there isn't a team in the league with a defenseman 4th (or higher... I know I know, it's fucking blasphemy ) on their board right now. And on a more personal level, if I were an Edmonton fan and the right trade for the pick didn't present itself I'd be satisfied (as of right now) walking out of the draft with Chychrun headlining my draft class. He's very very good, but he's been in the spotlight for a while and people like to flock to what's new and exciting. Just ask the "next Ovechkin"
Just going by Bobby Mac's survey of scouts a couple weeks ago:
Only two of the 10 scouts surveyed by TSN had a defenceman in their top five – one had Sarnia Sting blueliner Jakob Chychrun, a U.S.-born dual citizen who represents Canada internationally, at No. 4 and another had London Knight Olli Juolevi, a Finn, at No. 5. Only two other scouts had a defenceman in their top six.
So yeah, a team or two may have a d-man at 4 but most have them later on and why not use that pick to trade down and get another asset in addition to your young d-man? There's a really good chance one of Chychrun, Juolevi or Sergachev will be waiting for you later on.
I mean, if it was in a trade for Subban sure. Still don't see that happening though.I agree that trading down is the best move there, I guess I misinterpreted what you said because I thought you were talking about them trading the pick outright for defensive help now.
I think Minnesota getting Bruce is a great move, but...their roster isn't exactly Boudreau type at the moment. Very interesting to see how that works.
They have a goalie.
Something Calgary doesn't
No, we don't want Miltsy.
Couldn't have asked for a better combo save maybe Randy Carlyle and Ron Wilson.
