This is a trend that should continue.

But enough with Canada and cities where you can see Niagara falls.
You guys can have Matthews.

More time I have to ponder, the more I hope the Leafs wind up with Laine. I like his name better and turning Toronto into Little Scandinavia is sounding more appealing by the day. Hopefully Junior Nylander somehow manages to find his way here as well.

Just gonna throw out there one last time that the league doesn't control the arbitrator, and that Wideman/the PA shot themselves in the foot by going for a full withdrawal of the suspension. If he had admitted guilt and asked for a reduction I'm guessing this is all said and done with a month ago.

Could be, however if Colin Campbell isn't a complete moron (yeah, good one dash) and doesn't succumb to social media pressure with a ridiculous 20 game suspension and instead says it wasn't intentional, but I still have to suspend him 10 games, maybe there is no appeal by Wideman and the NHLPA.

I mean, I don't think the 20 game suspension was ridiculous because Wideman absolutely intentionally plowed the linesman so I can't really fault Campbell for that, much as I would like to.

Like I said, best thing to change here is that the player can play while appealing. I think both the league and the PA made moves here that left prolongation of the process as an inevitability.

So you climbed inside Wideman's head and managed to extract that information to form that conclusion?

I think that's a leap.
NHL controlled the process from start to finish.
there was no other way this was going to end.

as I've mentioned early, it nips the arbitration process in the bud.
until the next CBA looks at this issue and allows players to play while appeal is in process (subject to 5 game minimum sitout or something)

this time around, NHL was just plain smarter than NHLPA

No, I watched the video of the heavily padded professional athlete bowl over the lightly padded member of the officiating crew after having said member of the officiating crew in his eyeline for at least a few seconds.

I get it, they can't prove he intended to injure and the 20 gamer is for intent to injure. The issue, way I see it, is how the hell can a heavily padded professional athlete intentionally bowl over a lightly-padded official without intending to hurt him? What's his intent then? Cause minor discomfort?

TORONTO (March 11, 2016) – The National Hockey League Players’ Association released the following statement this afternoon regarding the Neutral Discipline Arbitrator’s decision to reduce Dennis Wideman’s 20-game suspension:

"Given that it was undisputed that Dennis suffered a concussion mere seconds prior to his collision with linesman Don Henderson, we felt strongly that there should have been no discipline. Nonetheless we are pleased that Arbitrator Oldham found that the collision was not intentional and that the suspension was reduced to 10 games. We respect the process and the decision and we look forward to Dennis returning to the ice tonight with his teammates."

Bettman boasting about the parity in the NHL today and suggesting it's the best it's ever been. Hey Gary, there are 8 teams that are more than 10 points behind the team holding down the last playoff spot in both conferences. That's not parity, that's a load of craptacular teams.

So the infamous tweet that Wideman sent about "dumb refs" was sent to Gregory Campbell, the son of Colin Campbell. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

The league needs to give the Flames some type of compensation for this fiasco.

So the league strenuously objects to the arbitrator's ruling? Is Demi Moore working for the league these days?
