I don't know, if Burkie was really in charge and really making the personnel decisions, I think Hudler and Russell are still members of the Calgary Flames, they part with their first rounder for Mikael Boedker, and James Reimer would be the newest Flames goalie (I guess there's still a chance of that happening this summer).

/There's no change your loathing of the man has clouded your judgment is there BBB?
:D
I don't know if any of that is true, but I do know that when the Flames were playing well last year both Treliving and the guy incapable of tying a windsor knot said that the success would not lead them to deviate from the rebuild plan. That seems to have gone right out the window when they didn't trade Hudler last summer despite his value being at its highest and a contract extension near-impossible. Combine that with their deal for Hamilton and the fact that no fewer than 7 goalies moved at or around the draft and the Flames had questions in goal despite Hiller having an okay season and I'm not sure anyone in the front office quite understands just where the team is at.

So in that regard, them accepting that another bad season wouldn't be the worst thing for the team isn't something I would rule out.

So is Zac Rinaldo is suspended by the NHL and now gets an additional suspension from the AHL - send him down to the ECHL and see if he can pull off the hat trick.

Really?!? Or are you referring to last season because Hiller has been god-awful this season and Flames goaltending has been putrid pretty much all season long (Ortio has finally provided some average to pretty good goaltending of late while getting terrible run support). Yeah, I will agree that they probably should have moved Hudler last off-season, but maybe they didn't get a great package in return.

It was in reference to last season.

I'm hearing that a decision from the independent arbiter on the Wideman appeal is likely to come out Wednesday. By that time, Wideman will have missed 18 games. The original incident took place on January 27th, 2016. Ridiculous that this process has taken this long.

It is, but there's plenty of blame here. If the NHLPA had argued that Wideman deserved punishment, just not so much of the punishment, this likely would've been resolved a month ago. By arguing he did nothing wrong, which is absurd, each level of appeal had to consider any and all evidence submitted by both sides arguing where blame laid. If even the independent arbitrator is taking forever with his decision it's kind of hard to argue that this process could've gone any quicker.

If NHL controls the appeals process, NHL will get is way.
This was Bettman setting precedent.

Doubt we see anymore appeals filed until its addressed in a future CBA

If Donald Fehr is still around for the next CBA, I could see the players adopting a similar process that exists in MLB (i.e. you can still play while a suspension is under appeal).

They should definitely adopt the MLB model of no salary cap. That's what we're talking about, right?

I was worried when the Leafs didn't collapse enough to prevent an OT point, but Calgary thankfully followed suit. 1 good performance and 1 more Lotto point!

Looking at the Buds' schedule, they may be on a 12 game losing streak by the time Calgary rolls into town in 2 weeks.

I think the Leafs are safe as far as finishing 30th is concerned, quite the dogfight for 29th right now (Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton all with 59 points).

And the draft order will wind up as Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto lol
