I'll be interested to see if the league does anything regarding the Kadri throat slash. Why do I think that if the tables were turned and a Flames player directed a throat slashing gesture at Kadri that the player would be suspended?

- Kings Unis looked great.
- Nucks should have been down by about 5 after 30 minutes.
- disappointed Roy didn't get tweaky when his challenge was denied

Kadri will be suspended. There's been precedent here, hasn't there?

I personally never understood why in a game where people stop play and punch each other in the head to "get a rise out of their teammates" a gesture is so inflammatory but I guess I'm a simpleton.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. A league where threatening violence is a suspension but following through is a five minute penalty.

I wonder if Bobby Mac will give us another mid-morning surprise today or tomorrow - with Ottawa making a move it would make sense if some of the other bubble-ish teams tried to get an early jump on moves.

Have to figure the Habs are going to do something - got a nice 3 game streak going and a pretty manageable schedule for the rest of February leading into a trip through death valley that Price should be ready for. Islanders should be looking for a piece or two to make sure they stay competitive in their division and avoid a wild card spot. Nashville, Colorado and Minny all have holes that need plugging (although I doubt Nashville is trading another 1st rounder, the other two might).

Next couple of weeks should be fun.

Not sure what Ottawa did to deserve that, especially since they have to endure politicians!

As an Ottawa fan I'm happier than a pig in shit to be honest. Phaneuf won't have to play as a 1D in Ottawa, he was never meant to be captain and he won't be close to that in Ottawa. He's a legit top 4 defenseman (probably the best one that would be available for the next year or so) who is going to be replacing AHL caliber players (Cowen, Wiercioch, Borowiecki) on the second pairing. It's such an upgrade that I can't even put it into words. He really addresses the most presing need on the Ottawa team. That might not even be the best part though. We get rid of Cowen, Greening and to a degree Michalek. Cowen is horrible and Greening may not even be AHL quality anymore.

We'll be paying him $6.6M per year which is pretty much what we'd have to pay in UFA for a player of his abilities. We would have had to wait until Michalek, Cowen and Greening came off of the books in a year and a half, then spent that money on whoever was available. Who knows who you'd have to overpay for at that point?

I can see the Leafs liking the cap flexibility in a couple years when they hope to be challenging for a playoff spot. If they're truly set on tanking then they've now got some serious weapons too, in Cowen and Greening. PLug those two oafs into your lineup and the losses should start piling up soon.

For your sake I hope Ceci can bring out his inner Jake Gardiner:
