Montreal pulled 2 in a row off this weekend. Albiet against weak competition. Still there's a little light in what had been a dark tunnel for them.

Ben Scrivezina made an appearance this past weekend.

I like the term, dollars maybe a tad high, but overall I think it's a good signing.

It's good if his body doesn't break down. If he decides to throw fitness to the wind the Jets are in deep shit.

But if he maintains fitness and a good training regiment, it's a fine deal.

I don't know, Big Buff is a throwback (like Espo and Sir Charles), he plays better with a little extra poundage.

So I heard that the NHL deemed Simmonds broken stick throw towards the ref unintentional and thus Simmonds won't be suspended. I guess the league got their pound of flesh from Dennis Wideman and everybody is happy (except for Alain Vigneault).

I actually kinda like the Flames, Dash...but there is no doubt Wideman got what he deserved.

As for Simmons, he probably should have gotten something...a game? a fine? I don't really know what the usual punishment for that would be (of course, most likely neither does the NHL powers that be). I'm talking about the broken stick of course. What he did to McDonagh I really done have a problem with. cross check a dude in the neck and you should probably be expecting him to take a swing at ya.

It was an homage to Mats Sundin. Can't knock a guy for that.

I'm not surprised that Wideman got suspended, I think jstew said it best, the league backed its officials by giving Wideman the maximum length of suspension available knowing that Wideman will appeal, my best is that Bettman will uphold the 20 game suspension and then it will go to an independent arbitrator who will likely reduce the suspension in the neighborhood of 10-12 games. After all the social media outrage and vilification of Wideman, it was the easiest thing to do.
