Still, 0-2 goals per game isn't going to cut it.

Not disagreeing, but when the game is won on that I'm gonna be salty. The third line has looked great, but Sid and Geno need to step up. Also doesn't help the offense when the defense is as bad as it is. They're not giving up tons of goals, but they can't drive possession and thereby boost the offense. Johnstons usage is maddening. Scuderi needs to sit, and for gods sake get Maatta away from Lovejoy.

It turns out the personal reason that kept Alex Ovechkin out of Tuesday night’s game was oversleeping.

The Washington Capitals captain told reporters Wednesday that was benched by head coach Barry Trotz when he showed up late to Tuesday’s morning skate.

Ovechkin said he had accidentally programmed his alarm for 8:30 p.m. instead of 8:30 a.m.

“It was an honest mistake,” Trotz told reporters after Wednesday’s practice, which did include Ovechkin. “We have certain accountability rules.”
