Ever wonder why you even follow sports? I've had that thought on days where two or more of my teams lose.
What's worse, before yesterday I had just lamented the fact that I was switching over from one disappointing Pirates team to another underachieving Penguins team.

Wow, after watching the Flyer/Lightning 3 on 3 OT, I've come up with a summary of how to defend a 3 on 3:

Don't.

On the channel lineup on Center Ice Last night, it said "Lightnings Vs Flyers"

I am going to call them the Lightnings from now on.

Maybe Phil needs Fewer Primanti Bros. sammichs.

Fixed

It's blue and orange day for a lot of NY fans!!

I think the last time the Mets were in the playoffs and the Islanders were actually relevant at the same time may have been 1988.

Wait, can we cut the hyperbole shit and maybe give credit a goalie that was pretty lights out? The Pens need to be better at creating more viable scoring opportunities, but they'll score goals. Now, feel free to be as hyperbolic as you want about Scuderi, because he's just awful. On ice for every goal. For some reason he's seen as the top PK dman. I don't understand that one bit, coaching staff. The one "good play" people give to him was sweeping the puck out of the crease. BUT HOW THE HELL DID HE GET TO THAT POSITION? HOW do you end up on all fours, with your back to the play, and just happen to find the puck to sweep away? He feel down about five times untouched last night, was blown past a few times, literally gave the puck to the ART ROSS WINNER from last year. And yet he had the third most minutes of defensemen. He was only :30 less than Cole for #2 in those minutes. So he's being played like a top pair defensemen, essentially. Put Clendenning out there, please. He had a solid preseason. Suck it up. No one in this regime is really responsible for Scuds being here, and I know his contract would make "healthy scratching" hard, but take a look around the league and you'll see it's not just the Pens doing this.

Yeah, Pix, we outshot them but most of those shots were weak and low-percentage. When we did get our few scoring chances I credit Niemi for his excellent work.

When I say underachieving, I'm referencing the last 5+ years, and more specifically, the entire 2nd half of last season, but as pointed out, that was a result of Dubinsky. :)

It wasn't because of him, it was just that lackluster play made him smile like a dog butcher. Or something.

So, here's the rookie sensations' sweet goal from Connor McJesus' first NHL game:

Well, I remember him being a Pens killer in some critical moments of some games last year, so that is what I thought you were referring to.

I agree, anyone who watched could see that the shot totals don't tell the whole story, but they weren't out there rolling over or anything like that. The third was derailed with penalties, and I'm still salty about the high stick call on Geno. It was a follow through, but because it was a backhander they apparently just don't care. Special teams need some work. Not a fan at all of splitting up Sid/Geno on the PP, and as mentioned already, Scuderi on the PK is terrible when you're playing a fast team.

Fixed.

I was especially impressed with the pick-pocket on Scuderi that thankfully did not lead to a goal, which prompted my earlier :L

Edmonton is going to have a very very long season.

All the damn time. And I can't stop caring. It's fascinating and horrifying.

As a long suffering Mets fan I can't tell you how much I appreciate the Nationals efforts this year.

Congrats, wish you guys the best of luck.

The Nats are working hard to uphold the traditional marks of failure in DC sports. They've had one of the best teams in the league the past 3-4 seasons and failed to make the playoffs as the preseason favorite to win it all and have yet to advance beyond the first round of the playoffs. They even worked in a "lose in spectacular fashion in a series-deciding game" into the mix by dropping a 6-0 lead three years back.
