Oh, God I hope they are at the mercy of the home team's feed as well.

"Here we go, leafs on the power play and... There's a Cannon. Not sure what's going on with the power play, having some issues with the- OKAY here we go. Wait, they are zooming in on Jack Johnson on the bench. I just saw Kadri go by... The Leafs' power play is firing at - OH MY GOD, JACK JOHNSON SNOT ROCKET. What the heck, why are we- okay, back to the on ice action. Nice shot of Bobrovsky's mask. I mean really close up. Would love to know what's going on with- Aaaaand there's the cannon again. "

Why just away games? It can be a real hassle getting to the arena.

Edit: and two broadcasters can be expensive. Why not just steal the play by play from the opponent's radio team and have the color commentator throw out a few comments every now and then?

i can see there being mass confusion in that case

Joe Bowen: (reading an Arbys ad during a stoppage in play while a Wendys ad comes on the CBJ tv broadcast) ... "Arbys makes your hamburger a beautiful thing"

Jim Ralph: "man ... would i love to be face deep in her baconator"

Joe Bowen: (screams) "WE'RE ON AIR RALPHIE!"

Jim Ralph: "no we're not (looks at tv monitor and points) ... commercial"

LOL, yeah Bowen's 1 of the worst when it comes to broadcasters

ROOT Sports would be fantastic for this. "And the puck is sent around the back of the net, Fleury slows it down and heads back to his crease. There's Fleury still in his crease. We seem to be having an issue, uh, OH THERE'S A 2 on 1 IN THE OFFENSIVE ZONE! Who has the puck? OH, and to the end zone cam. Uhh, can't really see what's happening here." Or during penalties. "There's Lupul in the sin bin...two for roughing. Yeah, there he is. What's happening? I hear a goal horn?"

I have to think that a franchise worth over a billion dollars didn't like the optics of saving a few dollars on hotels and airfare.

Senior executives from both Rogers Communications Inc. and BCE Inc., which share the Leafs’ radio rights as well as ownership of the team, apparently reversed a decision to have the duo call the road games from a Toronto studio this season rather than spend about $130,000 to travel to road games. Neither company would officially confirm the change, but a source from one company said the reversal was done, while a source from the other company said it was in the works – but the situation “remained fluid.”

Jim Ralph: "You can't say god damn over the air"

So I heard on the radio this morning that Lehner has not only been not-so-good during the preseason in Buffalo, but has also spent a lot of time talking to the media about how he "never got a chance" in Ottawa? He also apparently showed up fat.

I despise the Sens with everything I have, but I gotta hand it to Murray because that trade looks more like a stroke of genius every damn day. Even if Colin White never turns into anything it's just highway robbery.

Colin White is probably going to be a pretty good 2nd line C. He's been compared to Patrice Bergeron. Obviously I'd be thrilled if he was ever that good, but he looks like he'll be a 3rd line C in the NHL at worst with his skating and defensive play. We'll have to see if his offense will come around at the pro level.

Lehner has all the tools to be really good and probably will end up as a quality starter but he's growing up pretty slowly. He hasn't improved in the last 2 years and that's a bit disconcerting, although not that weird for a goalie.

I mean, if last season taught us anything it's that goalies can develop consistency at a much later age than we once thought - Talbot, Dubnyk and Hammond are all closer to 30 than 25 and showed starter bonafides. So it's definitely possible.

I think he may wind up like Dubnyk pre-last season if Buffalo can't limit the defensive errors and SOG this season though. If his confidence gets shot to shit there's a good chance he never takes the next step.

I wonder if Lehner has a bit f Mason-itis. He's had success, and really solid instincts, so maybe he feels like he doesn't need to really work. And the backside of that is of course when it starts to fall apart, you look outward first. And that pisses off everyone and no one is willing to help you.

Mase fixed it, but not before staring a loss of a career in the face.

How Ottawa got Lehner for a 1st round pick I'll never know. Buffalo has all the talent in the world but they won't go far this year if Lehner's their #1 goalie.

It's definitely more common with goalies. Hasek was a backup until he was something like 28. Tim Thomas was a backup and/or minor leaguer until he was 32 or 33.

Those are certainly unusual examples, but it definitely shows it's possible.
