Could be something good coming along with him, one of those "buy a draft pick" type deals. But it would have to be an awfully good asset given how many years there are on that deal (5 or 6, right? I'm not sure)
Yeah I think he's signed until 2020.

Thing is, is Shero crazy enough to give up his first rounder in a season where his team might be a bottom feeder?

Depends on how badly he wants to lose the Zajac contract I guess. He's not trading him any other way.

I was hoping that the Flames might land Zajac about three years ago (thought he was showing some nice potential), but not at the dollar figures he signed with the Devils.

I doubt Shero cares about shedding his salary since they're barely at the cap floor with not many long term commitments (I think there are 5 guys signed past next season). Not sure what the rules are with retaining salary but if the Devils ate 1.5-2 million of that he's reasonably priced. Zajac is also a strange player in that his game goes with his confidence. He's a fringe 2nd liner when he's not playing with confidence and a low end top line center when he's playing at 100%. Not a bad guy to have on your team, very useful in a lot of situations but not at that dollar amount.

This is where I typically remind you and Shero that David Clarkson was a fan favorite in Joisey. And he would make it so shedding salary is a good idea, if you need a reason too.

Actually I know I was saying before that Zajac couldn't be moved without including a first rounder but there's a trade that wouldn't require that much add on. A package for Clarkson.

Sens having trouble with a Swedish prospect.

Senators prospect Wikstrand bolts for Sweden

How about this quote from Bryan Murray:

Sylvain St-Laurent @Syl_St_Laurent
#Sens QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I told him (Wikstrand) he can go home and be a grocery clerk and play in a beer league." - Bryan Murray

That quote's funny, but in a day and age where depression is all too real of an issue in sports (and in life in general), maybe don't go out and savage a homesick 21 year old in the press?

Big money for Seabrook.

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC

Seabrook is eight years at approximately a $6.85M AAV. Good for him, he earned it.

That deal...ehhhhhh...I get the need, obviously. But man. 8 years is a long time for a 31 year old (when it kicks in).

Seabrook gets more than that on the open market. Term is always gonna bite you at that rate but he should still be good for another 4 or 5 years and so should the Hawks.
