When is he eligible for an 8 year extension?
80 games played.
So, May?
When is he eligible for an 8 year extension?
I still think Nationwide Arena must have been built on ancient Native American burial grounds.
If Stevens starts to get that scary twitch in his face he's getting ready to pop torts...just sayin'Was actually built on what was the parking lot of the Ohio Penitentiary. Has a wee bit of an unsavory history:

There's an 18,000 seat arena on OSU Campus and 9 (other) sheets of ice around town to practice on. I think it's time to move out until a witch doctor can be called in.
In other news, Neil Smith Torts will be analysts on NHL Network.

The good news is so will Scott Stevens.
Verhaeghe can't drive any offence himself.
I think Grabner will play more NHL games this season alone than the five of them combined will in their careers.
Are you getting Stamkos too?
Exactly.Beck played 62 games with Nashville last season.
That's assuming the Isles don't re-sign Okposo, Bailey, Kulemin, Nielsen, Nelson, Strome, Hickey or De Haan, and don't have any other players besides 3 defencemen, and have no goalies, and have no team.I actually think they have a better shot at Stamkos. Which is saying they got no shot at all. In 3 years when Tavares becomes an UFA the Islanders are going to have nearly 30M in cap space. If Tavares leaves it won't be about money.
Don't forget Scientologists.

In that case, Johnny T would probably take the KHL over re-signing with the Isles.

Oh he's going to be offered the world by the Isles. Without question. It's just, ya know, how much will be left for the rest.I think they've been pretty careful with contracts knowing the JT payday is coming.

And maybe more importantly, how much will they be able to do with this roster prior to his contract extension.

I think that's what they've been working on. Shedding Grabner maybe makes room for Okposo, I'm not as convinced as Bolts that he's as good as gone. I think he's a core guy they consider a big part of their future. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out but I think Garth is positioning himself well.
I don't know why you're so convinced Okposo's gone? If the Isles' strategy is to keep trading away veteran goalscorers once they're up for UFA and replacing them with up-and-comers, I don't think they're ever going to go anywhere.Okposo is as good as gone. He could be dealt before the start of this season. They aren't going to resign him. Kulemin won't be resigned when his contract is up. I'll be shocked if Bailey is signed 3 years from now. Strome will be a RFA at the end of next season. He isn't going anywhere. De Haan will get something similar to what Hamonic got. 7 years 28M. He's making 2.9M for the next 2 seasons. After which he'll be a RFA. Nelson will be a RFA in three years. He isn't going anywhere. Grabovski will be an UFA in three years as well. He won't be resigned. One of their 4 goalie prospects will likely be ready in 3 years so there's a good chance they can let Halak walk. I'm not sure what they'll do with Hickey. Pulock could be ready this season. He'll definitely be ready next year.
The Islanders have depth in the system. Barzal, Dal Colle, Bevoullier will likely all be contributing in less than 3 years. That's just at forward. Ho Sang couldn't even get to the first day of training camp on time. He's been sent back to Niagara.
I'm not concerned about the future of the Islanders in the least. Garth has the team in a very good situation going forward. Heck they've got 7M in cap space with Okposo on the block for the right price.
I think Kane and Toews make more than Ovie now.The highest paid player in the league is at 10M. I doubt Tavares will be paid more than Ovie. We'll find out in a couple of years. I doubt he hits free agency. They'll sign him to an extension probably during the offseason leading up to the final year of his contract.
He's a 25+ goal scorer. These things don't grow on trees.I think that's what they've been working on.
