Larry Brooks writes that there's a good chance the NHL salary cap may not increase next season. Canadian dollar taking a pretty steep dive is definitely having an impact on NHL revenues.

LOVE IT !!! now all the Teams that justified stupidity by saying 'when the cap goes up this will be a good value deal for us" ......... but what if it doesn't go up ?
The Hawks will be in deep trouble if the salary cap stays where it is.

Yay. Really, how many times a year can you scratch in order to get a couple decent efforts from him when you let him return?
He was a line killer too.
Honestly, the Oilers would be wise to pick him up, Rene's best years were in his home province of Alberta.
Maybe Calgary can add him for some depth, then?
A lot of teams will be, honestly. Teams like the Pens and Bruins are tight right now, but have a good amount of FAs after this year. The Bruins may be selling cheap on some talent though: Cap geek projects them to have $12M in space (w/ cap at $69M), which is fine and dandy...except that Torey Krug and Dougie Hamiliton are coming off of their ELCs.
Man, there are lot of FAs going in to next year just by looking around the capgeek pages. That said, it's November and extensions happen.
