Old story but is it still relevant? That fumble stat of the Pats dating back to 2007.

So if Aaron Rogers likes his balls we'll say at the highest end of the spectrum (so as not to upset anyone), and they play in GB which last time I checked is pretty bad weather, wouldn't this logic mean they should fumble a lot more in GB? Check out the numbers you may be surprised?
You're absolutely right. Playing in bad weather prevents fumbles. Nuff said.

I look forward to seeing the Patriots' fumble rate go up considerably in 2015.

C'mon guys. It is just another bizarre coincidence.

Anyone want to start a thread on the amazing coincidences relating to the Patriots and cheating.

Patriots also lead the league in fewest broken tackles. Are you haters going to argue that the fact that the Patriots are really good at tackling the other team is somehow related to deflated footballs too? Did the Patriots somehow deflate the other teams' players' BODIES?

Maybe the reason the Patriots lead the league in several statistics is simply because Belichick is a really good coach, and he teaches better technique than anyone else.

The Patriots have now produced evidence that the reason for the drop in the rate of fumbling is because the equipment manager lost some weight....

Oh snap. So you're saying that there is a completely new and unrelated scandal out there waiting in the wings? You're absolutely right, the Patriots DO cheat at unprecedented levels. That franchise has an impressive championship to scandal ratio.

Speaking of deflated balls.

The questions we should be asking is why haven't other teams investigated why the Pats fumble less than other teams, and why haven't other teams attempted to emulate it? I would think if I were an owner of an NFL team I would want to have that competitive advantage as well.

Not condoning cheating, but 'cmon, every team does something. It's not like the NFL is known for its integrity, nor are the players. When I was playing at FSU almost every player took PEDs. Hell, I did! So I can only imagine what is going on in the NFL where the stress of competition and success are so much greater.

Seems to me that that is some pretty strong evidence that NE has systematically cheated for the past eight years. I never got too excited about Spy Gate or any of the other stuff that NE has been accused of, but for their fumble rate to have dropped so dramatically over so long a period, immediately following the procedural change that allows them to deflate footballs, is difficult to chalk up to mere coincidence.

It seems that you are willing to buy into this without reading into it. Read this instead of that other stat-crap.

All I want to see is a lawsuit and the equipment managers put on the stand, along with the ball boys. That could be a problem for the Patriots and Brady. Better hide those guys in the jungles of Luzon or something. And regardless of any outcome of all of this, the damage is done and people have already made up their minds. No amount of legal drama will change anything. Haters will always hate and it will be at least a generation before people stop bringing this up.
If the Pats start fumbling this season, that will only be more ammunition for the haters.

I get this occasionally from Charger fans here. I usually tell them that they had Stickum charges from the league in 2012 (which many don't remember because it garnered so little attention) It resulted in a $25k fine for an uncooperative ball attendant. Then, going back in time (assuming this has been going on a while) you have Ladanian Tomlinson's 712 touches without a fumble (second all-time to Barry Sanders).

Do we assume Ladanian Tomlinson is a cheater?

No - It's a huge reach.

Please reread the snippet of the article posted in the OP that I quoted. For your convenience, here it is again:

"According to Sharp’s calculations, the Patriots’ fumble rate was 42 touches per fumble from 2000 through 2006. That was about the league average. Since 2007, however, that rate has dropped dramatically, to 74 touches per fumble. Over that time, the Pats are the best team in the NFL at holding onto the ball, even including dome teams."

I only made it through the first table in the piece that you posted, since by then it was clear to me that that piece was unlikely to address that ^. Feel free to post any quotes in the article that you posted that do in fact address that ^.

You need to read the body of work. You will find it very convincing. Note that the author thinks Brady cheated.

NFL fumble rates (2012-2014)
Team Fumbles per 100 plays
Ravens 1.05
Saints 1.14
Patriots 1.21
Falcons 1.23
Browns 1.30
NFL Average 1.63

LOL You merely reproduced the first table in the piece you posted, which as I mentioned in my previous post, does not address this excerpt from the OP, which I now post for the third time in this thread:
