I cant believe I read a Frank the Tank article again, whats next the WV Dude? Old Frank has championed Texas to the Big 10 multiple times. I think Texas and OU are joined at the hip at this pt. Here is why:

1. As long as 1 remains, it makes it hard to go without a little brother politically. They both go and its "hey, OU/Texas is going 1 way or another. Its a death sentence to stay"
2. OU/Texas combo may make it palatable to take on some lesser schools.

On the continuous state theory, the Big 10 would drop that in a heart beat if a Texas deal was worked out. State of Texas means way too much to BTN to let a silly rule of convenience get in the way.

This would be amazing, then the 4 Texas schools could go to the Pac 16. 4 California schools, 4 Texas schools, now that's a power conference. Plus the Big ten doesn't have much national tv coverage, if I'm not mistaken their only big tv deal is with espn. The PAC at least has as good a deal as the Big 12, with ESPN and the Fox networks.

The PAC is not taking religious schools.

If the Big made a move to 16, causing the SEC and ACC to move you don't think the PAC would thank Jesus for the 4 Texas schools available?

You might want to rethink that logic.

20 teams and 2 divisions of 8 or 9? I take it you weren't a Math major.
I changed my mind mid thought. I didn't like the 10 team divisions. But thanks I can point you to good math board.

KU and OU have their own networks too, FYI.....
But would they be willing to give that up to get an equal share of the B1G network pie? I think they would. I am not so sure about TX.

Seems like Texas could go independent if OU/Kansas went to the BIG.
Could have permanent games with Oklahoma, aTm, off and on with Arkansas and of course load up the schedule with all the pushover teams of the old SWC and Big 8.

What's not to like

I see nothing Kansas offers to the B1G. They would be near the bottom in academic standing, offer no real media market that the B1G would want, and don't make much money. They have a solid basketball program, but otherwise nothing is really appealing.

Nope, with bigger conferences you want your conference with as much tv deals as possible. The big 12 and Pac 12 currently have the most, both on all the ESPN and Fox networks. The Big and ACC seem to have the least of the P5 teams.

Compared to Rutgers and Maryland Kansas looks like Notre Dame. Plus they give you Kansas City, and you could throw their bball games on your btn.

I would guess that the Big 10 would structure something like the PAC did with UCLA and USC. Big 10 would stop Texas out at a 30mm payout on the belief that adding the state of Texas would significantly boost the BTN payout. PAC did that and it ended up not coming into play, as the money surpassed the mark in the first year. Not to mention addign Texas as a home state would be a significant boost in their position to negotiate a new network deal.

Say what?

Kansas is the 106th ranked university in the nation. Rutgers is #70 and Maryland is #62.

Also, that Kansas City is in Missouri, so getting the Jayhawks wouldn't help us add anything. Besides, Kansas City isn't that big of a market anyhow.

I would really enjoy the negotiations that Larry Scott would have with the Texas schools about joining the PAC 12.

He has been down that road twice. He was suckered in 2010, in 2011, he played hardball.

Go to Kansas city, its a Jayhawk city. Their is a reason the big 12 keeps their tourney there. Rutgers was a mid major, Maryland was a broke athletic dept. Kansas seems like a crown jewel compared to those 2. Plus Kansas vs MSU would be a great new basketball rivalry, and OU/Nebraska is a great football rivalry (I've been told)

I just gave you the numbers. Please explain how come the SEC and B1G have higher ratings in both years than the other three conferences, if the B1G isn't on TV? How come the PAC 12 is listed in 5th if they are on TV so much?

I think adding TX would be huge for the B1G and the B1G network. I would love to see OK and TX join as a fan where even if in different divisions I would get to see tOSU play both of those team every couple years.

If they were to stay in a conference, Texas could only be so lucky as to be part of the B1G.

Again, nothing about Kansas academically is better than Rutgers or Maryland, and actually they're nowhere near their academic level. Not only that, but Rutgers brings the NYC market, which is far more than Kansas can offer. Kansas has nothing to offer the B1G. It just doesn't make any sense for us to split money with a school that offers little to nothing in return.

I think Texas is likely to go West if they make a move. Patterson is close with Larry Scott.
