The Big 12 has already copyrighted the rights to Big 16, don't ask me why...

Yes they did.

Before the formation of the Big 12, there were a huge number of teams on the line of being possibly involved.

They "patented" the Big 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16. They even patented 17 and 18 I believe. The Big 12 could easily have been the 1st conference to 16, but they thought it to be too crazy.

Either way, the Big 10 will still always be the Big10. While people laugh at the number of teams, it is an icon and name that everybody knows. You say Big 10, you absolutely now what you are talking about regardless of number of teams in the conference.

That all sound good but why wouldn't the BIG go after Oklahoma and Texas instead of Kansas.

There is a land connecting kind of thing that the Big 10 is stodgy upon.

Therefore, OU and Texas aren't available without Kansas or Missouri. Missouri was huge for the Big 10 because they could skip Nebraska and Kansas to get to OU and Texas. Missouri was a middle man, and they had big markets of Kansas City and St Louis.

Go back to 2010. Missouri was IN to the Big 10. They just lost out on negotiating and Nebraska gave up a ton.

I would guess they will ask but TX will have to agree to an even split on the network money. Im not sure if they are ready to do that.

I like the idea of the B1G moving to 20 with 2 8 or 9 team divisions who all play each other within the division then the winners of each div. play for the B1G championship.

I like it - most interesting. Never considered this in all the conference musical chair scenarios.

Love the matchups.

how exactly did mizzou lose out on negotiating? i know they thought it was a given they were in before nebraska won out but is there an official version of those events?

from an outside perspective it looked like nebraska realized mizzou was going and just out flanked them because they knew the big10 would take them first if available.

and while were at it what is it going to take to get auburn in the sec east and move mizzou to the sec west.....

OU Nebraska would reclaim it's rightful position as the best rivalry in all of football.

20 teams and 2 divisions of 8 or 9? I take it you weren't a Math major.

I have heard Kansas to the B1G for a LONG time. I have even posted it several times on this board. There is another team I have heard mentioned and it isn't Texas or Oklahoma.

Contiguous state, = Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

Texas would beg, borrow, and steal to keep the Oklahoma Texas game. Texas would throw as much money as they could at Oklahoma to keep them in the Big 12.

As to why Delany won't go after Texas? He has already dealt with Texas once in Spring of 2010, he knows their MO. Texas has the LHN, which really isn't a deal breaker, but ESPN ain't letting that go to Fox and the BTN without a hefty payment. That won't happen.

This actually makes some sense, now that I think about it. I have posted how Kansas would strengthen the west in basketball, and if Oklahoma did come in, that automatically gives them the West in Football. In theory, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Nebraska could almost sort of rival Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State.

Adding Oklahoma would also give Texas high school players the better chance to be recruited by the Big Ten West. But, as usual, most of them would choose Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma. But Texas has a lot of high school football talent. Plus, the BTN probably already has carriage in Texas so the families could watch their kids.

I personally never saw Oklahoma as getting an invite, and this is actually the first time I have heard that rumor.

I gave also posted this before,

ESPN and Texas will let the LHN become the Big 12 Network. Texas asks for the larger piece of the pie from that because it was the LHN. But Texas will allow Oklahoma to have the same slice of pie. The outlying schools will get a small piece. Iowa State, West Virginia, and Kansas State all get 5% at most. The Texas politicians ensure that the Texas schools all get ALMOST the same as Texas does. Oklahoma State and Kansas get a little bigger slice than the other schools, maybe the same as the other Texas schools.

This would be amazing, then the 4 Texas schools could go to the Pac 16. 4 California schools, 4 Texas schools, now that's a power conference. Plus the Big ten doesn't have much national tv coverage, if I'm not mistaken their only big tv deal is with espn. The PAC at least has as good a deal as the Big 12, with ESPN and the Fox networks.

The Big Ten had no idea conference expansion would blow up the way it did. The estimate was 18 months, not five.

Missouri was in the first expansion analysis scenario, Nebraska was never even considered in the first scenario.

This is why Missouri was asking to join the Big Ten. They knew they had made the first cut and why the governor of Missouri lobbied hard for the Big Ten.

The big surprise was how quickly the PAC 10 jumped in. Delany and the Big Ten never saw that one coming. When the PAC 10 almost lured away the Big 12 South en masse, (not to mention that Texas admitted at the Big 12 meetings that Texas had talked with the ACC, Big Ten, and the PAC 10)Nebraska shit their pants, and begged the Big Ten. The Big Ten would have much rather had Nebraska for the football brand over Missouri for its brand which is why Nebraska was fast tracked.

Initially, the Big Ten never dreamed of getting Nebraska. Yes, I know the Texas posters will bring up the Nebraska "secret meeting with Delany" but Texas had secret meetings with the ACC, Big Ten, and PAC 10. Hell, Deloss Dodds gave a TV interview where he said that he and Notre Dame were thinking of making a mega conference. Every school has secret meetings because they are looking out for their school. This has all been hashed out numerous times on this board, and I won't argue it.
