Im more talking about the disparity between Texas and the others. The relative lack of respect for the league is a part of it for sure but the league itself is solid. Oklahoma and Kansas would benefit if only by getting away from Texas. That doesnt even mention the boon theyd get financially and recruiting wise in other sports.

LOL the Big ten was a laughing stock until urban meyer saved their reputation.

Just wait til the ACC dies, they have a horrible TV contract. They can't even generate tier 3 money since ESPN owns their Tier 3 rights already.

Im sure boosters and alumni would not love the move for OU. It makes sense that they would prefer to keep rivalries with Texas/OK State intact. The question of whether or not its good for the school though has a different answer. Its a tough call but a move to the P12 isnt happening unless Texas goes with and the Horns dont seem that excited to make that move. I honestly think IF the B12 disbands at some point you will see Texas go the route of BYU and ND where they stay independent football wise and have affiliation on a basketball front. That makes more sense for them to do than joining the P12

Eh the B10 is a far more storied conference than the B8 or B12. You are correct in that the leagues rep suffered for roughly a 10 year period but that was pretty much solely because of OSU losing a few title games in blowout fashion. Even then the league still had representation on a national scale in title games, BCS bowls, Final 4's etc. The worst 10 year period for the B10 is still preferrable to about 90% of other leagues.

Only one conference has ever had teams finish 1-2-3 in the final AP football poll...and it wasn't the Big 10. :D

Which conference did that, the MAC?:hope:

True ebough but thats a 1 season basis. The B10 features 4 of the best 10-15 football schools traditionally speaking all time in OSU, Michigan, Penn State and Nebraska. The B10 did so by seeing where stuff was headed and adding those schools. The B12, as I see it now, is kind of in the same boat the B10 was in early 90's. Its Texas/Oklahoma and everyone else. Yes many of the other schools have good runs on a seasonal or even multi seasonal basis but they still arent considered traditional powers. Thats not to even speak to basketball where the B10 is clearly dominant over the B12. Its not really a matter of whether the B10 is currently better or not, its amtter of which league has sustainability and the B12 is in trouble. Eventually someone will either poach Texas OR they will leave on their own and become an independent. Once that happens its curtains for the league and its better to leave before that and be able to decide your own fate. Oklahoma and Kansas are both fortunate in that they both have storied history in one of the 2 major sports so they have options. Many other schools in the league wont have that luxury.

For what it's worth..........

I've been to a couple of alumni functions lately and have visited with at least a hundred donors about the rumors concerning OU maybe going to the B1G. About 90% of them said "NO!" to joining the B1G. The main reasons were (a) we have no natural rivalries or connections with the B1G schools except Nebraska (who we miss a lot), (b) there's just no appetite for traveling to B1G schools during cold weather months and (c) the cultures of the B1G area and Oklahoma are not a good match. (But most people thought we'd eventually fit pretty well with the west coast schools which is interesting.) The strong preference, if a move is ever made, is for OU to go to the Pac 12 (preferably with some other Big XII schools but most importantly Texas) or go to the SEC with or without Texas or any other Big XII schools. Seems to me Boren's shitting himself if he thinks the fan base and donors would support a move to he B1G. Nobody talked the B1G down (everybody knows several teams in that conference would be a real challenge to play) but there just wasn't the desire to travel north as much as there would be to connect with a new conference to the west or southeast. Also, a big majority of the people I talked to lean against the Big XII adding any of the schools currently being mentioned with the most common comment being along the lines of "we would be settling for schools that don't come close to what we lost. It's better to wait and see what happens." One more thing: nobody wants to lose the Texas game every year.

This is your answer.
Study it.
Especially the part about going to the SEC with or without Texas or anyone else.

Troll much? We play plenty of cold weather games in ice storms, etc. in December around the Big XII conference. But who the fuck in their right mind wants to play in ice cold weather in November too when they can play in a warmer climate instead? If you're so tough, Sparty, come on down and play any of us when it's 105 degrees at kickoff with the humidity at about 50%; we have a month of that too.

Good point, ellupo. I can't see anyone joining the Big XII that we'd want. But we would take Nebraska back from the B1G and pay for the privilege if you can talk them into it. :tsk:

Rember whn all the Nebraska fans said their team would NEVER leave for the B10?? NEVER!!! LOL. After they did leave we all heard how Nebraska would DOMINATE the B10 for years to come... Yeah not so much. It was the same story when the league got Penn State. Oh well I am sure that IF Oklahoma leaves the B12 for the B10 we will all be treated to the same story. Thatll be fun
