Greyshirt is certainly a more responsible option than just pulling the rug out from under them, a la michigan.
No it's not because our former recruit is fully capable of playing this year. Greyshirting leaves a kid stranded for an entire year.

day always learned us dumbasses down here in the south that 100% of 0 is 0. Is dis common core math?
100% increase. IE Michigan has 0, Alabama had 1.

Players choose to gray shirt, or can go elsewhere. Players do not choose to have the rug pulled out from under them.

There is no obligation to do so. I'd rather pull a scholarship from a kid than do what MSU did and take more kids than they have room for.

And if they don't, they're left in the same boat as the poor saps michigan screwed over. At least it shows your program gives a damn about the kids.
We didn't have room for him so his offer was removed. He's perfectly happy at another major Div 1 program. No harm no foul

No, you had room when he committed two years ago. You didn't have room for the guy who took his spot, so your chicken shit head coach tried to ghost him out, then had an assistant coach call the kid to break the bad news because he couldn't be bothered to make a 10 minute phone call himself.

Why offer him in the first place? Oh yeah, kids are commodities to Harbaugh, nothing more. Responsible and caring programs won't make an agreement with a kid only to screw him over out of the blue when the process is nearly over. Nothing changes that.

Please stop being the morality police for the recruiting practices of any major football programs coach. These coaches are out for themselves and to keep their multi-million dollar job coaching football.

They don't grey shirt players because they care about the kid. They grey shirt a player because it gives the team depth and the player an extra year to workout and put on weight. They grey shirt to circumvent the NCAA rules of 85 scholarship athletes at one time or the max number allowed in a recruiting class.

If Dantonio was a saint -- he wouldn't be grey shirting athletes or pulling scholarships because they attend an event of another program. He would let a player go from jail to the starting lineup the next day.

If Urban Meyer was a saint -- he wouldn't tell a player he can stay in school, but not play football, after the kid is already on campus. He wouldn't hide failed drug tests with walking boots. He wouldn't have a team full of felons when he was in florida, but they won championships so everyone made excuses for them -- until the excuses run out and you end up in jail for life.

If Harbaugh was a saint -- he wouldn't pull scholarships, go after recruits at other schools, not bring back 5th year seniors, etc. etc.

Same goes for Saban and another other coach at a big time football school. So get off the soap box and quit with the speeches. If these coaches were doing it for the players -- they wouldn't be getting paid millions and millions of dollars. NCAA is big business and these coaches will do anything they can to skirt the rules until they are told they can't.

It blows my mind how clueless some fans are and how they think their school does no wrong, while the next school is dirty. I will save you some time -- THEY ARE ALL DIRTY.

And is Saban's case, he usually only offers a greyshirt if they're planning on red-shirting the kid anyway. I have zero problem with that. It's not like he's really missing out on anything in the end.

100% increase. IE Michigan has 0, Alabama had 1.

And please stop embarrassing the University of Michigan. If your starting point is 0, any increase cannot be expressed in percentages.

With your example -- whatever it is you are talking about -- the answer would be, Alabama has 1 more than Michigan.

He offers grey shirts to manipulate the # of total scholarships on the roster. It isn't a secret. If you have 86 scholarship athletes on the team after signing day -- you grey shirt a recruit who won't see playing time and now his scholarship counts for the next year and you have 85 scholarship athletes.

The "player" isn't missing out on anything, but the coach isn't doing it for the player -- he is doing it for themselves, whether it be at Alabama, Michigan, OSU, or anything other school.
