This is really all that needs to be said. In the social media age where people are constantly linked in, this stuff is happening as I type this very sentence right now. I would guarantee it.

At this point teams that get busted for it just get judged for being dumb enough to get caught. A lot of self-reporting cases also seem to happen not long after a coaching change (Mizzou basketball did this a few years ago) and it's probably a way to tell everyone they're distancing themselves from a coach who's no longer there and the new guys had nothing to do with it.

I was speaking more beyond just Ohio state. Many schools report piles of secondary violations with no consequences. Seems like they should add up to something. Or maybe ease the rules if there is really no punishment.

Harbaughs first year vs two years at the end of Urbana career? And given the amount of violations in two years I’d bet there’s a similar period of time where OSU had more violations in the same span.

But my point was more about mass violations in general. If there’s no punishment why have the rule and why not break the rules?

They need to eliminate many of the dumb violations (like what desserts are “allowable”). Universities spend untold resources monitoring minutiae, and all it accomplishes is the production of mounds of reports that amount to squat.
