Ohio State self-reports 22 NCAA violations, penalized

"The violations submitted by Ohio State to the NCAA include the following: Impermissible text messages, impermissible phone calls, impermissible promotion, preferential treatment, an assistant recruited prior to passing recruiting exam, student-athlete reinstatement, impermissible publicity, promotion using student-athlete image, impermissible publicity and inducement, an impermissible tweet, impermissible electronic correspondence, impermissible text messages, use of image/name/likeness, use of outside consultant, Big Ten tender filing deadline missed and financial aid overage."

" According to Eleven Warriors, the football team exceeded its scholarship limit in the spring of 2017 due to a compliance issue. As a result, Ohio State's program had a one-scholarship reduction at the “next available opportunity" at the NCAA's discretion.

The Buckeyes also agreed to stop recruiting Penn State star Micah Parsons, a former five-star per the 247Sports Composite, after he appeared on the College GameDay set and chatted with television analysts."

Urban Meyer finishes his career as a cheater.

How many of those are secondary violations?
Probably most if not all. But at some point you have to look at the collective whole, no? At what point does a pile of secondary violations add up to a major issue? it kind of looks like they repeatedly made minor recruiting violations knowing nothing would come of it.

That's like saying "At what point does a pile of jaywalking tickets add up to homicide?" Give me a break.

I don’t think it’s the same. There’s an advantage to breaking secondary recruiting violations. No? OSU is pretty blatantly violating a shit ton of them (there’s been similar stories in the past) if the punishment is 0 then why have the rules? Either get rid of the restrictions or say if a team compiles 10+ recruiting violations then maybe something more severe should happen than.....nothing.

Good point, OSU needs all the unfair advantages they can get. They really struggle getting recruits there.

Nobody cares about your proposals. Why have the rules? The NCAA bylaws are absolutely filled with ridiculous rules. Fuck, Tennessee's coach had a "violation" by tweeting congratulations to a high school basketball team. It's pretty common knowledge that a shit ton of stuff that constitutes a "violation" are harmless and ridiculous.

Why cheat though? As you just said OSU doesn’t need to. Yet 16 violations. It’s not just like an oops or two because of some convoluted rule a coach forgot about it didn’t apply to the situation.

The large majority of them are minor and inconsequential. If it bothers you that much, write your congressman or something.

Oh look, another 4* just committed to Ohio State. Crazy.

Though if we're being honest this is going on to some extent with every FBS team.

This is really all that needs to be said. In the social media age where people are constantly linked in, this stuff is happening as I type this very sentence right now. I would guarantee it.
