Self reporting 16 low level violations screams please don't look any closer for anything else to me. If you felt they weren't that big a deal and can be shown they we minor you wouldn't say anything and if they did come out you'd say they aren't a big deal.

I don’t know why you report anything ever. It’s not like the NCAA shows any leniency for self reporting things. See Missouri.

You report something if you know for sure the NCAA is looking into it and you want to get in front of it. That's about it. If you randomly report 16 minor things I'm guessing and human nature would say you're just hoping they take it ans say thank you and don't look any closer. Notre dame self reported something with advisers helping players too much and got burned and had a season vacated. UNC sat on fake classes with hundreds of athletes attending for literally more than a decade and got a slap on the wrist.

Why cheat though? As you just said OSU doesn’t need to. Yet 16 violations. It’s not just like an oops or two because of some convoluted rule a coach forgot about it didn’t apply to the situation.

Many times with new coaches and staff members, they will commit minor violations without even knowing it.

The NCAA has so many laws these staffs have to abide by, it is almost impossible not to commit minor infractions.
