Sigh. I dislike Zim at 3rd, not just because of the throwing errors, but also because he plays the shallowest of any 3B in the league. Play 10 ft deeper = more range.
The Fister trade is great. It's funny seeing some of the comments around (from fans only, none of the "experts" seem to think this is anything but a win for the Nats) lamenting the loss of Lombo. I mean, I liked Lombo as much as the next guy, but he wasn't anything special. A utility player with below average hitting numbers...yeah, not gonna miss him too much. He seems to be a decent enough guy, so I wish him well in Detroit.
- Cubs have interest in Storen to fill their closer role. Schierholtz or Russell are pieces that Nats could get in return
- Jeff Passan tweets the Nats are shopping Espinosa. Strange timing because Rizzo just talked him up saying he could fill Lombo's role as utility IF.
- Rizzo says Nats arent that interested in adding a back up catcher. Hopes Ramos can catch 125 games and Leon/Solano can play the rest.
- Getting a lefty reliever looks like priority #1 right now, either by free agency or trade.
Damn, i was hoping we could steal O'Flaherty from the barves. Would have loved that pick up. Looks like its not gonna happen. Id be ok with Howell or Logan
Also in more recent news: Ryan Zimmerman is gonna start grounding balls at 1st in spring training...
Nats have taken care of business quickly this offseason. Not much else to do. Maybe add another hitter to the bench. Maybe take a look at a backup catcher like Buck if the price is right. Time to get extension talks for Ian Desmond and Jordan Zimmermann going and count down the days till spring training.
