Carroll - gone
Geno - gone
Lockett - gone
DK - gone
Maybe they aren't deliberately tanking, but at this point they sure as hell aren't deliberately competing either. And now they are rumored to be interested in this clearly washed up guy whom they will (obviously) be able to get for pennies on the dollar. Seahawks To Contact Aaron Rodgers Yeah, sorry, I'm not convinced. And this talk of interest in Darnold. Yeah, sorry again, but I don't believe that either. I think that is just lip service. A rumor floated by John Schneider.
I think we all wanted Carroll gone.
Geno is a bridge QB, nothing more. And he wants $45M per? WTF? Seattle reportedly would've given him $35M... fine. And if Rodgers wants to come here for a year until we groom our next guy (or go balls deep in 2026) for $25M? Fine... It took 2 years under Carroll to find Wilson (who Schneider wanted, Pete didn't like the pick)... it's fine.
Lockett - we ALL knew this was going to happen. Even Lockett knew it was going to happen, it's why he restructured in a way to cause a HUGE cap hit in 2025 knowing that we wouldn't carry him for $30M of cap. Lockett has said he'd like to continue to play for Seattle (he loves the city) but we can't resign him (for far cheaper cap hit) until free agency kicks off officially. There's a good chance he comes back, but he knows we had to release him.. and Seattle politely did so, so he can get offers from other teams and test the market. And we can't keep kicking the can down the road with him, we've done it twice already.
DK - well he requested it... and frankly if the rumors are true he's signing a $150M contract for 5 years, GOODBYE. For a WR that can't run routes, quits when he doesn't get his ice cream, mopes around on the sidelines, and makes boneheaded penalties/fumbles 24/7... fuck that. Oh let's not forget he's reinjured the same knee now 2 years in a row, and looked like shit after he came back. 900 yard 5 TD receiver... $30M per? HA. Yah he's one of the most physically talented WRs... but he's got the football IQ of a toddler. And to answer your question, the DK trade frees up $10M of cap. Yah it sucks we eat $20M or so dead, but you can do a LOT with $10M (that can get you an AP/PB starter).
With DK let's not forget, even though we were shipping Geno he wanted out (he reportedly had beef with Geno). And then goes to Pittsburgh... lmao, where the QB situation is JUST as bad lol. So he's in it for the paycheck 100%. Seattle WISELY said no. I would not be surprised if he never achieves 1K yards again.
Aren't deliberately competing? Geno is replaceable, Lockett was not a huge impact last year, Mac turned Carroll's bottom feeder defense into something serviceable at least (with hardly any cap room and dealing with boneheaded decisions like Adams), and DK was... well at times was impactful... but to who? lol... his boneheaded turnovers/flags certainly cost us some games.
