Yes, I am serious. Are you trying to say that Serena is in the same situation like Steffi Graf, prior to Monica stabbing, where she dominated? The more things change the more they remain the same. You have to compare what women face over the period. I brought in Djokovic to show that within his own domain he faces the same competition that Serena faces. The difference we forget is that Serena's reign has been expansive masking any part of confrontation and rivalry with say Justine Henin, Venus , Capriati, Clijsters, Azarenka et al. And yes Serena has been beaten and often. In fact prior to Clijsters retirement, she was beating Serena consistently. I am not downgrading Serena. I believe she is arguably the Greatest player on the women side even though it is difficult to compare eras.

So you think Henin and Clijsters is the equivalent of Federer and Nadal? The 2 men are in the conversation for the greatest of all time. The 2 women are barely even considered for the best of their time. This is just silly.

Even the Graf comparison is not quite adequate. Graf had to play Navritilova and Everett early on. Again, 2 of the greatest of all time. Even Seles was head and shoulders above anyone that Serena has faced other than Venus early on.

I would say Serena's competition is where Hingis' was before the Williams sisters came along. Womens tennis really is that bad. It is worse than bad. It is putrid.

Just finally getting around to the results today. Wow Karlovic & Dolgopolov was by far the best match of the day

Told you it would be. The fact that Dog won a tie break is impressive too. Thought he might take it after that.

The Dr.'s serve was too much on grass in the end. Saw him at ground level and that serve looks like it is coming down from a 3 story building.

the comparison to fed is pretty good, imo, though the moniker "baby fed" is tired now.

dimitrov has a lot of potential to do much better than he's done for the past several months. for me, he needs a real tennis coach. rasheed is a great fitness coach, and he's helped dimitrov develop a man's body, but dimitrov needs somebody who was successful as a tennis player.

other than serana and kvitova, there's nobody you can feel assured in picking to win matches in the first week here. maybe sharapova this year at Wimbledon since she's had a lot of extra prep time?

and it's not because there's a bunch of ultra-competitive girls displaying their skills. outside a small handful, some are fast, some have a good forehand or backhand (never both), and almost none can serve worth shit.

the WTA is a shambles.

it goes through cycles. there will be 5 years here where the WTA has the better mix of talent, and then another 5 where it's the ATP. right now, women's tennis is borderline unwatchable....unless you're into sex moans/shrieks that so many of them do now.

Actually what is silly is your inability to understand that if you take dominance in an era as a yardstick for the competition, then one can legitimately claim that Djokovic rise coincided with the tail end of the careers of those you claim are giving competition to Djokovic. The same can be said of any player in any era. As I said trying to compare women tennis to men in any era is silly and ridiculous. Claiming the competition in women tennis is bad because of this comparison is nonsensical as well.
