14th is a good spot to start. My biggest question is how the hell does one computer not even have VT ranked .... yet the others have VT ranked 5,7,7,8,9, and 13 respectively (not saying the top 10 rankings are warranted). The playoff can't get here fast enough...then again I will prolly be bitching about that when an undefeated VT gets passed over for a 1 loss SEC team in a couple years.

That same computer had FSU #5 and Miami #21, while Northern Illinois is #10 and Notre Dame is #12 (Not ranked in top 25 in any other polls). Obviously the structure of that ranking system has very different assumptions/formulas than the others.

The Billingsley poll is fatally flawed. Not sure how its author doesn't see that from his own words...

ESPN.com: Page 2 : BCS guru explains craft

My formula gives more weight to the most recent performance. Because of that, when I release my rankings, you can look at my rankings and then you can look at the most recent performance over the weekend, and a person could look at that and say, "I can see how that happens." You can look at the weekend's games and then look at my poll, it's like looking at the [polls]. I've always said my system was designed to be an improved Associated Press because it reacts the same way. A team loses, they drop. They win, and they go up. The other computers don't react that way because they treat all the games equal.

That is interesting and likely why we are not ranked in his poll. We weren't ranked last year and we didn't play the week the poll came out. If we beat Dook, we should jump up in his poll based on this.

His methods are interesting and have flaws but every system has flaws. In the end he states what everyone knows. Winning fixes everything.

It is week 1 of the BCS rankings. All of the data points aren't in the computers so there will be a lot of shifting as teams play the heart of their schedule or get into an easy stretch from a SOS standpoint. FSU will fall below Oregon if Oregon wins out.

Scratch that. If you go to his website he has everything listed and has been doing them for the whole season. We have climbed a lot but every team dropped after a bye week. We fell from 29 to 33 in the bye week

but winning won't fix everything the way his algorithm works. It'll help, but if you start low you're going to have a hard time moving up, just like the human polls... only perhaps more so because at least some humans try to adjust for that.

You're probably right there. In years past not having a conference championship would have hurt them, and SOS facing PAC teams, but this year is a different story. Based on today's rankings, Oregon's remaining slate does look harder than FSU's, even with FSU still having to face Miami, Florida, and presumably the Coastal champ.

Hey, at least he got into the debate....

...I mean he had to sit in the crowd and ask questions but its a step. :L

I wonder what would happen if someone like Sardis with a more common sense approach really got to debate and present his ideas in an election like this that is so gross.

It's a sad state of affairs when political voting always comes down to the least of two evils rather than the best man for the job since they never run for office. I know I certainly hate the 3 months prior to any election since I can't watch primetime TV without seeing the same smear campaign commercials every 7 minutes.

The closest this has ever (and will probably ever) happened was when Perot ran for President in '92. He received almost 20% of the popular vote. There are just too many straight ticket voters that will always keep a true independent out of office even if they were the best one for the job.

After Perot, the two party establishment out laws in place to make sure that never happens again too. Interestingly, Perot's predictions came much more true than Bush or Clinton, especially concerning foreign trade and labor.

Is there any kind of protest going on at VT about the debate? Because its bullshit how the major two parties conspired to keep him out. Said he had to poll at 10%, he started getting it, so they switched it up to an average of 10%. Then the week of the decision, he conveniently polls just under 10% on average. Such bullshit. We should even host the debate. I hope there are some rowdy people in Blacksburg stirring things up tomorrow.

What I've wondered is could Sarvis actually win if it were on equal footing? He's polling around 10% with close to zero campaigning compared to the other parties not to mention most media outlets barely mention him. Strip away their PAC finances where everything is equal, or if Sarvis had ton of cash to run ads and he might actually be around 30 to 40%.
