How many years did Young have left on a deal when he was asked to change positions. I know it wasn't 6, but I think it was a few.

I wonder if Profar winds up as our CF eventually. More likely he gets dealt though.

He's not getting dealt until his value is enough to get us some kind of decent return. They won't deal him just to do so.

I can't believe Holland never started opening day for us probably had something to do with tripping over wrigley. He hasn't been good since.

Based on who we have in the organization I would have put the order of who we needed to extend like this.

Darvish
Lucroy
Odor

It isn't too late for the other 2, but for now it appears the other 2 would have made more sense.

It will be interesting to see how a longterm contract affects Odor.

Nice outing from Nick today. 4 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned, with 1 W and 6 Ks.

First of all, let me say that I really want both of them to be extended, but this team has gotta make sure they get at least one of the 2. You just can't let them both get away. I'm sure JD will make sure we get one of them back. At least I'll keep telling myself that.

I understand where you're coming from.

But I think the signing of Odor had less to do with prioritizing and more to do with the easiest and most cost effective one to accomplish right now.

Yeah, I am kind of afraid that cost is more important than need as far as determined in what gets done. But, it is still early in the process.

Even with Odor locked up, the Rangers might not be done extending young players
The Rangers could extend Nomar Mazara next

Earlier on Saturday, the Texas Rangers reportedly agreed to a six-year extension with second baseman Rougned Odor. Turns out, the Rangers may be interested in a long-term deal with another one of their talented young players.

That’s because Texas has reportedly engaged outfielder Nomar Mazaraabout an extension, per Ken Rosenthal:

Mazara, who will turn 22 in a month’s time, appeared in 145 games last season after being rushed to the majors due to injury. He hit .266/.320/.419 with 20 home runs in that action, good for a 93 OPS+. It’s worth noting his overall numbers were anchored by his struggles (.548 OPS) against left-handed pitchers; he had a .791 OPS versus righties.

Considered a top prospect around this time last year, Mazara’s youth and feel for hitting make him an obvious candidate for improvement. The Rangers’ interest in retaining him for the long haul makes sense then.

As it stands, Mazara has a year of major league service time, per Cot’s Contracts. A player must accrue six years before he can become a free agent.

I come on this board during the pre-season because I don't look at espn. I don't have any social media accounts ( probably one of the few millennials who could say this, and as I've said before, I don't watch a single pitch of preseason, the WBC, or what JTA refers to as "fake baseball". Based on what I just told you, if there is a key injury, a noteworthy trend in players performances during preseason, or an interesting transaction made by the club, I definitely want to know about it. Some people on this board do a good job of keeping up with this team year round. I generally appreciate the articles / other information that they're willing to find and share with the rest of us.

That is why I log on during the "preseason"

Then you should possibly login and refrain from commenting about whatever you're not interested in

I don't know why, but this really bugs me.

Seems he loves playing for the Ned but isn't too worked up about playing for the Rangers, but can you blame him, after being jerked around. I know he was injured but no player wants to sit to often and especially a player of his caliber

I feel he has been given the short end of the stick with the Rangers.

But I also feel that Profar is a professional, wants to help this team win in anyway he can, and frankly, he's got 3 seasons left here. So it's incumbent on him to maximize his time here (hit better than 1-11 and nothing from the left side) so he can either force himself into our lineup, or a trade.

This probably means jack shit, but I found it interesting that the Rangers will begin the season with Perez ahead of Hamels in the rotation.
