I say this semi sarcastically, it's a brilliant Mike Brown pick. It will motivate Andre to have a good season in his contract year, and get a big contract from someone and net the bengals with a 3rd round comp pick.

There was a quote last night about how this guy is athletic enough to play all 5 positions on the line. That's fantastic, except they just re-signed a guard, plan to extend another, traded up for a center they think is the second coming, and have an LT who is coming off a career year and is their unofficial offensive leader.

I get preparing for the future, but the plan should be how to win a playoff game.

Count me as wanting DGB in the 2nd if he's there.

They are not drafting a QB...so it's a moot point.

I don't have much issue with the pick.

I'm happy with the position -- I wanted a tackle. And I have no issue with the fact that he won't be ready to play right away. He wasn't going to anyway. I wonder why he gave up so many sacks as a college player and I don't like that he's had other injuries aside from the knee.

Those are legit questions. The other injuries could be a concern. The Sacks...not sure. I know they threw the ball a ton, so that could be a small part of the equation. I think the ACL would have been less of a concern with teams had he not tore it in December. Most teams draftin OL in the 1st round are looking for them to step in and compete for a starting spot. The Bengals being in the position they are in, had the luxury of taking him and not having to worry about that.

PFF actually lists him as a steal, and again...at 21, knowing whoever you take is going to sit, it was worth it. You get a potential top 10 OL pick once he's healthy, a chance to ease him in with Whit teaching him, letting the body heal, and then he can either provide some depth down the stretch at multiple positions to get his feet wet, or will be ready to replace someone next year when the contracts are up.

What I'd look for in rounds 2 and 3 are WR/LB. I think both of those will help fill depth, but could also still fill roles this year at some point due to the lack of depth at these positions. The Bengals sorely need a true slot guy that can get underneath and run away from guys, and at times lineup on the outside. I would have loved Dorsett, but not at 21 (and as a matter of fact, I think Indy shouldn't have taken him either...they had more needs and players to fill those needs were there at their pick). I like Lockett in round 2 if they lean WR. Perryman from Miami also would be a nice addition, I have no clue if he would be around long enough to get to them in round 3 or not.

And hell, if Collins continues to fall...at what point do you say screw it, and draft another top 15 OL...round 4 with the extra pick? I mean, if he is innocent...that's a hell of a steal, and with the extra pick, you really don't waste anything.

The reality is...no one being drafted was going to start this year outside of maybe, MAYBE, a WR in the slot.

Dupree would be sitting behind MJ, Dunlap, Gilberry, and potentially Clarke...or at least sitting next to Clarke on the bench. So, for everyone pissed about that, he'd provide very little impact.

The DT wasn't going to start over Atkins, Peko, Simms (Is that who they brought back?), and Thompson

Dorsett would have been nice, but at 21....probably a bit of a stretch there, though I do think if one of the WR's had fallen (Parker or that kid from USC) they might have taken a hard look at that.

Most people have said he would have been the #1 OT in the draft if not for the injury. Considering that just about anyone drafted at this spot wasn't going to get a ton of PT anyway...why not take a guy who could end up being one of the better tackles in this draft when healthy. With both Whit and Smith up for contracts next year...it's not a bad pick.

This draft is going to be about adding depth, and looking at next year when I think 14 guys are up on their contracts.

Besides, the one position they need to get help from the most is locked in with Dalton, so does any of it really matter?

I think the biggest need was edge rusher and one with tons of potential and the size to play DE in a 4-3 miraculously fell to 21. He had a role on this team imo.

I don't have an issue with strengthening the line for the future but not with a better prospect at a more pressing need still on the board. If they were deadset on dratfing the Texas AM tackle they could have traded back with the Cardinals, kept Dupree from Pittsburgh, and picked up an extra mid round pick in the process

Rappaport is saying the Gregory skipped a meeting with the Raiders and showed up an hour and a half late to a meeting with the Saints. People think there might be serious problems. He's completely off a ton of boards..

Wonder if he's still on the Bengals board
